“Excellent location and stay”

i would very much recommend this apartment for a couple but feel it could be too cramped for a family of 4 . Susan greeted us at the apartment and made sure we knew about the facilities and arrangements. The bed was comfortable and the lounge area contained a dining section and a desk. The bathroom was spotless and the shower very efficient . I must mention in particular the kitchen which was equipped with everything you could possibly need to create a feast if necessary. We only really used it for breakfast and a couple of light lunches but you could make greater use of all the facilities there.
The apartment is located over one of the very old arched pavements. It is extremely close to a Monoprix supermarket and the heart of the Old Port with all the pedestrianised cobbled streets, quayside restaurants and cafes and interesting and unusual shops. There is a boulangerie down the stairs ( or lift!) for fresh croissants in the morning. It is also located only a 5 minute walk from the Place de Verdun where the airport bus drops you and where all the other cheap buses go from to neighbouring towns and the Isle de Re. The town beach is also only an 8 minute walk away and is charming with plenty of seating and parkland around. We visited the Isle de Re 3 times for the day- take the bus to St Martin for a mooch and lunch and follow that by a walk along the rampart fortifications to the lovely golden sanded beach. The buses are very cheap and it takes about 50 mins from La Rochelle.
La Rochelle itself is lively , entertaining and very different. Plenty of wonderful sea food to be had. The Aquarium is worth a visit and stays open until 2300 hours in the summer so you can avoid the crowds. The art gallery was pretty pathetic but the museum of the New World was very good, well presented with fascinating artefacts and material relating to the city's history of involvement in the settlement of USA and slavery. Be sure to try Ernest the Glacier in LR or The Maritnique Glacerie on Isle de Re- amazing choice of delicious ice-cream,
The apartment does not have internet connection but that can be used for free for 30 mins at all the Tourist Info offices. there is free bike hire available for 2 hours in the city and on the island. You will see cyclists everywhere and the island is crisscrossed with safe routes for the inexperienced or children.
My only suggestion for improvement in the apartment would be to provide a hair dryer and a few more towels. One towel only each for a whole week was pretty grim by day 7 as there is no washing machine to launder them.!
Apart from those comments, i would recommend a stay here for a relaxing and very French holiday

“Perfect example of La Rochelle elegance”

Just returned from staying in this wonderful apartment in the old port area of La Rochelle. Just seconds away from the action and perfectly located to explore all it has to offer. Well equipped. We didn't use the kitchen facilities but I could see everything you needed was there if you wanted to truly self cater. Supermarket within 100 yards and a small corner shop not far too. Despite the warm temperatures the apartment was beautifully cool. The be was probably the most comfortable we have ever slept in!! La Rochelle itself is a wonderful place to visit. We spent hours walking around the town in diffdifferent directions just exploring and people watching. Places to eat are in abundance and as you can imagine the emphasis is on fish and sea food. If you don't want to indulge then there are other options too. Would recommend this apartment to couples or a small group of friends. Booking and payment was simple a nd efficient through Trip Advisor. Thank you Susan for your hospitality.
