Stayed here in April 2012 when weather was awful. Staff excellent, Room superior with large bed and chairs and table, bathroom well above average. Easy walk to Old town and restaurants. Only down side was being woken at 5am by road sweeper as room at front of hotel, this does seem to be common in France, so would suggest requesting room at rear of hotel.

We arrived at thr train station, it took us 25mins to walk to the hotel. Reception and grand, we were an hour and a half early but only waited 5mins before being our key. The room was on the second floor at the back. It was huge for a room in France, a large clean comfortable bed, two arm chairs, writing desk, fridge with mini bar, and a tv. The bathroom with bath\shower was also large and clean, with plenty of toiletries. A tray for making tea and coffee arrived five mins after we did! we needed an iron, again it only took five mins. All the staff were really nice, nothing was a problem for them. When we were lazy we sat out in the garden, it was kept clean and tidy. The walk to the town took us ten mins. When it was time to leave, there is a bus station at the front of the hotel so we got the bus number 1 that cost 1.30 euros pp to the train station. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would definitely recommend it. Breakfast was 11euro pp a little steep so we didnt have it.

Room Tip: Top floor, garden view

A very pleasant, attractive, clean hotel with friendly and helpful staff. A few minutes' pleasant walk from the restaurants and harbour front, in a quiet, peaceful street.

Rooms well appointed, but let down in our case by only having net curtains despite being a ground floor room facing the pavement. This is not good enough, and I would not accept a ground floor room next time. This is a good hotel, however, so there will be a next time.

Breakfast is a continental buffet, with eggs, omelettes etc available on request, and is in a very pleasant dining room overlooking beautifully manicured gardens.

If you are in Aquitaine, this is a pretty good place to overnight en-route to the ports if you don't fancy a long day in the car before an afternoon sailing. Unlike so many french towns, you can eat in La Rochelle fairly late, so arriving mid-evening is no problem. Just make sure you get a room off the ground floor unless you're an exhibitionist.

Room Tip: As above - NOT ground floor - no curtains.

We decided to take advantage of the £7.50 single flight costs with Ryanair from Stansted just to get away for a few days. We were not expecting anything of La Rochelle but were very pleasantly surprised with the lovely french feel and welcome we experienced at the cafes, hotel, restaurants and aquarium. We stayed in room 24 looking out onto the garden. We paid 75 euros a night. The room was very spacious and clean, we had a large bed, nice ensuite with a good shower, TV, minibar etc. We had read that you just asked for a kettle and tea/coffee/milk which we readily did at reception. We also had bought a bottle of wine for our room and on realising that we had no corkscrew my husband went to ask in reception to borrow one. He returned with 2 glasses, the bottle uncorked and a pot of peanuts! Reception was excellent, they gave us a map and pointed out the best places to see. The foyer was lovely as was the bar and breakfast area. We had a continental breakfast on our second morning and the croissants, pain au chocolate and mini pastries were extemely fresh. So as you see no complaints, I just wished the time spent there didnt go so quickly.

Great hotel and you cannot beat the location. Very friendly receptionist and gave us good tips on visiting the city centre. We had 2 rooms (17 and 26) room 17 has a separate room with a TV and a sofa bed, very roomy and the bathrooms are updated and very comfortable. The bar is beautiful, the gardens are lovely ... the breakfast room is also lovely.

Room Tip: Room 17 is in the old part of the hotel, more character that the ones on the newer side .... also fa...
