We stayed 4 nights at the Churchill and would highly recommend the hotel. The location is perfect as you are walking distance to restaurants and our tour pick up spot was right out the front door which was great. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with large bathrooms. We really liked the extra space we had. We also had breakfast at the hotel and the service is outstanding. Lastly, the staff was very, very friendly and helped us before our trip with tour advice and during our trip. Overall this is a great location and a very friendly staff.

I am surprised to see so many people giving this hotel a four star, at best it is a three and nothing more. I will take some of the blamed on myself for this as I did not do my research as to the hotel set up. This hotel was converted from what was obviously a residence and the result, the rooms are small, there are many stairs to climb and no elevator. At minimum, you need to request a ground-floor room if you have any issues with walking up lots of small steep stairs.
My biggest concern for this hotel is security. They use keys; when you leave the hotel you have to hang the keys on a rack that is accessible by anyone. The manager of the hotel said there is always someone at the front desk, however on our two nights here, I observed many times where attention was not being paid to who was coming in the door and grabbing keys and also situations where there was no one at the front desk. The rooms do you have a small safe, however, you cannot fit all that you may consider valuable in that safe.
The rooms have very few outlets. If you use a CPAP device be aware there are no outlets at the bedsides. The beds are hard as a rock and definitely need to be replaced. If this is your type of situation then enjoy, however for €187 this is not exactly the deal I expected, that is per night by the way. Summers in France are getting hotter, luckily this hotel does provide air conditioning, however if you don't like the air-conditioning and prefer to open your windows, let it be known there are many bats in the area. They are literally right in the area next to the hotel in great numbers. The windows do not have screens as we have found all over Europe so just be aware. We will not be returning for another stay, however if this is your bag, it is located close to the city center and many shopping areas, so make your decision thoughtfully.

Dear customer,
Thanks to give us your feedback. We are a 3 stars hotel and not 4. We are very surprised about your comment and it's not the feedback of all our customers.
The building was built in 1850 and was at the beginning of the 19th century a mansion of a famous owner in Bayeux and used to be an annex building of the hospital while the 2WW. That's why all our rooms don't have the same size and we can't add and build an elevator in this type of building.
Also, as you know , in Europe, rooms are smaller than in US.
Customers always say our matress are very confortable, as you can see all the other comments. About the safes, it's mainly to put money and passport, and why not a camera, it's a standard size and not for add a whole suitcase.
We've never seen any bats in the area ! only seagulls and pigeons.
Many customers before arrival and make a booking ask us if we get one. Also, in case of any vacancies, we always do our best to satisfy our guests and accommodate a room at the ground floor and help for luggages.
We ask our customers to leave keys at the front desk, as you saw, we don't work with modern magnetic keys, we want to keep the former spirit of the hotel and I don't think so people would be charge if they lost their key room and it's not a problem for the majority of people. We don't use keys when you're not around, when the housekeepers has cleaned the room, the staff doesn't go and visit the rooms .
Besides, at night, there's a night watchman. Rightly, when my collegue see there's still keys on the rack, it means people are still outside into town and he waits for all customers come back to close the main gate of the hotel for safety and for our customers comfort. Is it still a security problem for you ?
Anyway, we regret you didn't like our hotel and hope nevertheless you enjoyed our lovely region.
Regards.
Sonia, front desk.

Great location in the city, close to tour pick up. Friendly service. They made a couple of restaurant reservations for us. Great breakfast, including eggs, delicious pastry, meats and cheeses. The room was a bit smaller than expected but the bathroom was roomy. Problem with hot water, however. Overall, I would recommend.

We stayed here for a week with our two children in room 14. We weren't sure what to expect of Bayeux but it is a beautiful little town with a real character of its own and lots of charm and tradition. The hotel is in a great location and everywhere in Bayeux is accessible by foot, e.g. Tapestry, British cemetery, museum of Normandy landings, cathedral, shops, restaurants etc. Although there is no parking allotted to the hotel there is plenty about and we always managed to fit into Place de Quebec right by the hotel. Parking was free overnight from 7pm to 9am and is cheap outside of those hours. The hotel was also an excellent base from which to explore the D-day beaches, museums and cemeteries. Totally recommend visiting Point du Hoc; Arromanches 360degree cinema; Aviation museum at Saint Mere Eglise; Port en Bessin; and Mont St Michelle. Omaha beach is nice in good weather - I'd suggest parking at Saint Laurent Sur Mer or colleville sur Mer. We loved it so much we can't wait to return and you can't go far wrong by staying at this hotel.
