Stayed for one night on a very hot day. We had a room on the top floor which was very hot but managed a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Lovely setting and we enjoyed sitting out in the grounds with a cool drink. Staff were very friendly and enjoyed a good breakfast. Would stay again.

When our original hotel in Bayeux had to cancel our reservation because their renovations were not complete, our agent found a room at the Chateau De Bellefontaine. On the airport tarmac we reserved the last room. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the location, the grounds, the delightful old chateau. We had dinner one evening in the Chateau dining room and it was excellent. The morning breakfast buffet was very nice. We used the Chateau as our base for exploring the Normandy region over three days. All in all a lucky find when put in a bind (walking in town by the Churchill Hotel which cancelled our original reservation we were glad we ended up at the Chateau - much nicer than the Churchill).

Room Tip: The "horse barn" is renovated into several 3-level suites. Very roomy, but would not be the best choice if stairs are an issue.

We only stayed one night but it was peaceful and beautiful. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was remodeled. However the shower was non existent. We will be back to enjoy it again. Dinner here was ok but service for dinner was lacking. Only one person for the entire service.

I have just left the chateau, and I miss it already. If you are looking for a place where the food is lovely, the grounds are spacious and quiet and yet full of old-world peace, then this is the place. A stream or small river runs through the grounds and on one side of the main chateau. There are swans (several huge white ones, several black ones) and ducks that live on the river, along with having a little house of their own. You are left to your own devices, not pestered, and there is plenty to occupy your time. The town and surrounding areas are full of culture and history, particularly relating to D-Day. There are tennis courts, ping-pong, a row-boat, and ample numbers of lounge chairs and areas to have a drink outside or simply wile away the afternoon. The breakfast is included, and it is sumptuous. Choices of eggs, bacon, potatoes, cereals, milks and coffee. You can make pancakes on a heated griddle---the batter is all set to pour. A large basket of oranges sits next to a juicer, so you can make your own fresh orange juice, or simply take a bottle from the fridge. Many pastries and tarts are available. In short, breakfast sets you up for a busy day. You may make dinner reservations in the restaurant, and the food is very good. We stayed in the secondary home---called the duplexes---which are in a matching building. My football player husband and large teenage son and I all fit beautifully in a suite, as the upstairs has a very comfortable pull-out couch, which was all made up for my son. The bay windows open and you can sleep with fresh air and quiet. Truly delightful.

Room Tip: 22, 23, 24 in the addition home are all duplexes. They are wonderful.

In travelling back from visiting a friend in Brittany over a long weekend we wanted to find a hotel near to Cherbourg for our last night before getting the ferry back

Found this in trip advisor and read some mixed reviews but decided on giving it a go

Really pleased we did as for us it was an excellent stay and broke up our journey home quite nicely

Just to cover off some of the trip advisor comments we had read and to give our opinion (not disputing what others had written) but just what we thought

1) Access - arrived at about 4.30 in the afternoon and both gates to the chateau were open and the reception was manned

2) We had booked a duplex suite which is in a block adjacent to the actual chateau (1 minute walk)

3) Duplex suite was very LARGE with parking right outside the door so no issues with luggage

4) Well appointed duplex with everything you could want (my one disappointment was no kettle or coffee making facility)

5) Walked into Bayeux which took roughly 15 minutes at a gentle stroll and you just kept walking in a straight line until you hit the town

6) Had dinner in the hotel (which we booked upon arrival) and food was good

7) Had breakfast the following morning which was fine

Overall this is a great place to stay but if you are looking for service levels that you find at the major chain hotels such as a Marriott or Hilton then this is not for you

If you are looking for some authentic French hospitality in a chateau in lovely grounds i would heartily recommend it

Dear Madam,
We like to thank you for your comment left about your stay in our Castle.
We appreciate your synthesis of your experience during your stay with us, born of a last minute choice and which proves to be a very good surprise.
It's also, this approach of our clientele that we like, hotel chosen a little by chance and which proves to be a wise choice.
Your synthetic narrative fills us and reflects positive things about us, and we're very grateful to you.
The typicity and "genuine French hospitality" as you say, is the point that we really like to showcase for our clientele.
You feel in the atmosphere of a castle, with architecture and services typically French, romantic, but also family, so that you can feel as comfortable as possible.
It's with great pleasure that we welcome you again in our beautiful medieval Normandy,
Sincerely,
Le Château de Bellefontaine
