Incredible amount of history in a short visit. Spectacular for young kids too with the audio guide. Great way to spend an hour to be up close to history

Really enjoyed this. Right amount of info as you go round the tapestry and the kids version kept things simple enough to follow and remember. You need a couple of hours to get round and see everything there.

Having wanted to see this intriguing artwork since I was a girl I finally made it to Bayeux!
The museum itself is a built for purpose place, the staff very friendly and helpful.
For the tapestry one is given headphones and the narrator takes you past the tapestry as the story depicted unfolds.
A couple of small notes: I wish they would let the visitors in group by group with, say, a minute in between and synchronize the languages so the flow is constant, there tends to be visitors crowding up at certain points.
And it would be nice if they got a new English-speaking narrator that sounded a little bit more enthusiastic - the one now sounds utterly uninterested in the story he is telling :O He also speeds through the tapestry with little pause to walk from panel to panel.
But as a whole WHAT an amazing piece of history!!! And I can't get over the fact that it has survived for close to a thousand years basically intact.
An absolute marvel and I am very happy to finally have gotten to see it with my own eyes!
Also, the small museum describing things in more detail is a well kept gem too!

You’re given headphones in your chosen language and as you walk slowly round the tapestry, you hear the story step by step. Was quite a few people in at the same time, but didn’t cause a problem - but I would say it they had let many more in, you may have had trouble seeing the tapestry in the crowds. Interesting and informative - the actual tour didn’t take too long and kept your imagination fired all the time.

We didn’t know exactly what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised. Be sure to get the audio tour, it explains what you are looking at. We found ourselves backing up to review.

Learned a lot that brought some of the history into focus for us..
