We stayed at this 'Hotel' last weekend. The property is still being developed and the first impression is not good as you are faced by builders hard at work as you arrive! However, the welcome is friendly and eveyone speaks excellent English. At the moment, this not really a Hotel, more a B&B as the resturant will not be open for another two weeks. The room we stayed was very comfortable, clean and nicely furnished. We booked through Eurostar and the breakfast was inclusive, and very good. Two annoying aspects of the rooms. The automatic light switch in the bathroom switches off half way through shaving or makeup application leaving you in total darkness! Also, there is no kettle etc which you would expect - 10 euros a day extra for this facility is not on! The position is definately 'Rural' You must have a car. The nearest resturants/shops are 4 km away and they are closed on Sunday. For anyone used to driving on the left, this detracts from the enjoyment of a meal out. However, the Cheval Blanc, recommended by the owners was excellent and a fair price for the quality of food and wine provided.
We based ourselves here for a first visit to the WW1 battlefields, from Ypres to the Somme, as Emmerin is half way between the two. There is no other reason, as far as we can see, to stay here otherwise as the village and countryside are not attractive. We do intend to return to the region next year, and will stay at the Howarderie - as long as the bar/resturant is operational!

Dear Guest,

I thank you for your review. In response to your comments I'm pleased to announce you the opening of the restaurant, the bar and the new lobby.

The restaurant serves a traditional creative Cuisine, with a variety of specialities. You'll find the actual Carte on the official website.

Longing to welcome you at La Howarderie in 2007.

Yours truly,

O. Courcol

A great shame.
Very friendly and helpful staff, but this will never compensate for the location of this hotel. We paid Euro 190 per night for a suite - this did not include breakfast - which whilst it was good (scrambled egg, ham, croissants), it was 15 euro each. It wasn't THAT good.
The hotel has NO communal area - no restaurant, no bar, no grounds. Nothing. If you wanted tea and coffee facilities it was an extra 10 Euro per day. What a cheek! And this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel.
The biggest problem is the location - it is a good 10-15 minutes from the centre of Lille and therefore pretty pricey in a cab - one way is 20-30 Euro. I chose the hotel for my husband's 30th birthday treat - thinking it would be nice to stay in the country, close to town...how wrong I was. There is NOTHING there... no restaurant, no bars, no supermarket! There is no good reason to stay here - not even any nice walks - it's a residential town with a post office and a church. That's it. All taxis come from Lille and start their meter when they leave Lille - hence a 5 minute taxi ride to the nearest restaurant was 24 Euros!! Not funny. There are buses, but they only come through town twice a day!
Do yourself a favour - stay in the centre of Lille. It's a wonderful town. You gain nothing by staying outside of town. It's far too expensive to get about.

Dear Guest,

I understand the disappointment that you suffered by coming at La Howarderie.

As a 4 star hotel, you thought about all the commodities that other 4 star hotel may have, eg a restaurant, big common places and a great location.

Our mission is undoubtedly to serve our guests at a very high level, but the utmost is to satisfy you and to provide you a great and alternative hospitality experience.

This have some boundaries, mainly the location.
La Howarderie concentrates on quietness, space, and nature. Elements which are difficult to find in cities at the same level. A car is as a matter of fact a must.

We 're currently buidling more common spaces and a bar restaurant. I'll will be pleased to welcome you at the restaurant and to offer you and your husband a meal.

Please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,

O. Courcol
