The Palace of Versailles is amazing as are the gardens. That said do yourself a favor and spend the 35 Euro on the golf cart which allows you to explore the grounds in greater detail. Also arrive early so that you can attempt to beat the large groups to the palace.

We arrived at 12.30 day time and waited nearly 2 hours in cue!! That was horrible. It was quite cold, so we freezed.
If you want to skip the line, you should pay much more expensive tickets, or take groups with guides (from agencies).

If want to go there by yourselves, choose the time app 3-4 pm, then cue is much more shorter (maybe just for half an hour) and take ticket with audioguide. It’s worth!

Gardens should be nice, but in April nothing was so green, still no flowers. So at this time not impressive.

Also, if you already visited Louvre, then in Versailes you will not see so much much different...
so.. think twice:)))

Note that from the beginning for April to late June RER line C will be affected by strike action by the transport union 2 days out of 7 (Monday and Tuesday this week, but not sure if that will be true every week). That means Versailles will be much harder to access via public transport on those days. It means that it will also be very busy on the days that the trains are running. I’ve not been here before but the crowds were crazy - people pushing and shoving just to get a better selfie.

That said, if you can look past the crowds it’s still a stunning place. It’s easy to see how it contributed the the bankruptcy of the Ancient Regime and the fall of Lois XVI. It’s worth learning a bit of history before visiting so you can understand how it fit into French history. If the lines for the audio guide are too long for you, the Versailles website has details about the different rooms, although it can be a bit hard to find the right description at times.

Don’t be tempted by the restaurant in the palace - the wait is stupid and there are cheaper places that are less crowded, better organised and have better menus in the gardens.

Well, what can I say when I have already booked my ticket months ago and when I come, there are queues of thousands of people, waiting... So, why did you make me book my ticket????
The palace was good but I have seen better ones (Madrid, London etc...)

Poor arrangement. Two hours wait to get in even with pre-purchase tickets. Rude staff, seems like they do not welcome tourists visiting there at all. Extra money for the water and fountain shows is a waste. Just ordinary fountain, nothing special. Don't waste time traveling to this attraction, you can well spend your time at somewhere else in Paris.
