This was my first visit to Restaurant H and it did not start well - the friend who chose the wine managed to select 5 bottles in a row which were no longer available.
The sommelier was able to point us to good alternatives, however.
We chose the 7 course tsing menu which is very reasonable priced at €70.
We ended up being the last guests to leave and before doing so were joined by both the chef and sommelier at our table for a bottle of champagne to discuss their gastronomic experiences that led to the creation of Restaurant H.
Despite the bumpy start we ended up having an excellent dining experience with the added benefit of having met the chef.

To admire also, work in the kitchen: precise gestures, not a word, a magic efficiency in such a small space. We have lunch there with curiosity and pleasure every time we go to Paris.

We ate here as a group of five. The food was excellent and inventive, but there were definitely dishes that did not quite work. Both desserts had a strange bitter taste to to them. Some of the flourishes were just too theatrical (a lot of smoke and foam) and made me yearn for great bistro food. The staff dealt very well with one of our friends who was really being quite difficult. But the whole meal felt quite rushed and we had left the restaurant by 2330 and were the last ones to leave. The kitchen was being swept and we felt like we were being pushed to leave. The courses came out one after the other and it felt like we were being watched by the kitchen and encouraged to eat fast. Not an experience I've had at other restaurants in Paris on a Saturday night where it is usual to linger at the table. The meal is good value at less than 100 euros, but we spent a LOT of money on drinks (we accidentally bought some quite expensive wine) and we would have liked to have been looked after just a little bit more.

From the moment that you walk into to this small restaurant you know you are in for a treat. The interior is contemporary but warm. Some clever design cues include a butter knife that stands upright but the table layout is practical rather than fussy, keeping the focus where it should be - on the food. The menu offers two alternatives - a five course or seven course tasting menu. No clues are given about the dishes themselves but the staff take the trouble to ask both about any allergies or major dislikes. The portions are small but an absolute delight, with unusual combinations of textures, flavours and presentations. Out of the seven courses, six would rate as excellent and only the cheese course was lacking inspiration. Wines are offered to accompany each course or bottles can be selected from a fairly extensive wine list. I thought the wine list could have had a better selection of lighter wines which would be a more natural choice given the blind and diverse nature of the food menu. That said, we had a wonderful evening, the price was very reasonable and I will definitely be back. Not to be missed.
