went for lunch on a wet summer's day. important hangout for many important literary figures (Hemingway, Sartre, etc) so a thrill to sit in their chairs. Unfortunately service very slow and abrupt, food only average. Clientele mainly other tourists.
Visit for the history, eat elsewhere.

We came for breakfast. The maître de was absolutely not helpful for us finding seating, he just stood there shrugging his shoulders showing no interest in assisting us. Really impolite, I had to laugh as he was like a caricature of the rude French waiter...

We found a free table outside. It was a bit chilly, and there are some traffic, but also some people watching. The tables are ( like in most french restaurants) tiny. They hardly hold the dishes, glasses and cups for 2 persons.

The waiter was quick, professional. Breakfast and coffee was very tasty, but SO expensive.

Supposedly the oldest cafe in Paris, this place has lots of history and character. We came for a late lunch. We were surprised by the lack of range on the menu. Pretty mixed r views of what we ordered; the onion soup was AMAZING, the Flore sandwich was pretty average- great cheese but the thinnest smallest single slice of ham - simply enough to enable it to be called ham and cheese. The Quiche Lorraine was fantastic, the duck cottage pie was okay but dry and the cheese on toast very unappealing. Everything was way over priced for what it was. Service was very good but don’t be in a rush! It was slow. Ticked the box of visiting but won’t recommend friends make this one for their to do list.

Many people went there and tge seat outside is always full. I have a seat inside but that's ok. The waiter was kind and take care very good. Hot chocolate with whipped cream was thick and delicious. I also enjoy the napolian cake (vanilla flavor).

OK, so this may be supposedly full of tourists, but when we went recently for lunch it was jammed with locals, all enjoying a quick lunch (it was a Monday). The food is tasty and the staff very efficient and friendly. Really enjoyed it.
