Hotel Particulier Montmartre

This is a hotel that would suit a romantic break where privacy and seclusion are top of mind. Certainly not a hotel for a Paris stopover or business trip. The hotel itself is beautiful on the outside, but a little tired and tacky inside. While the room was huge by Parisian standards, and had a certain charm, it was a little disappointing - a little scruffy around the edges (e.g. ropey old sofa in the corner) and with few amenities (don't bother if you need wifi, world TV, room service, or even a chance to make yourself a cup of coffee). Location wise - it's peaceful being hidden away, but with no food available (aside from breakfast) and a key system to get in and out it felt rather cut-off from the outside world. Staff and service were very friendly if a little chaotic (which for a hotel with only a handful of rooms was puzzling). Ludicrously expensive per night for what's on offer. Should really be classed as an interesting but no frills B&B. As another reviewer commented - it's really nothing special for what's being charged.

Perfectly acceptable stay but without real charm and nothing to exceed expectations. In addition, the prices are a bit on the steep side given amenities & service. Wouldn't go back.

We loved hotel particulier, it is situated in a lovely garden secluded from the bustle of Paris, yet metro, restaurants shops are all in close proximity, also this area of Montmartre has a lower volume of tourist traffic.
It was a private residence until converted to a hotel but the room proportions were left intact, so they are really spacious and quiet, sheltered from traffic noise. I will definitely return when next in Paris, although we were offered a special rate when we booked so it represented good value.
It offers something different to other hotels that perhaps you mightn't find elsewhere. You should note that when we were there the bar was only open Thurs to Sun and it is a great pleasure to sit in the bar in the evening, although the peace and tranquility outside of these days brought their own reward, hard to fault!

So many places claim to be boutique hotels or little gems and they're just nasty.; cheaply done up and with little taste. The Hotel Particulier gets it right. It's absolutely lovely: structurally beautiful, and really stylishly done up inside. We stayed in one of the Superior Junior Suites and it was really romantic; the room was huge, with an open plan bath, and we loved that there was enough room for the TV / entertainment area to be set apart in its own little alcove. It felt like a room in someone's (very upmarket!) home.

The reception area / lounge downstairs and the garden are lovely too. The reception / lounge is done up with some spectacular design classics, and despite it being really stylishly and carefully put together, feels welcoming - the owners are happy for people to lounge about - and the garden is just beautiful.

We found the owners to be absolutely charming; extremely helpful but completely unobtrusive. And it doesn't really matter that there is no restaurant on-site; there are so many places to eat a stone's throw away, that has got to be part of the charm of being in Paris.

All said, we'd definitely go back. There are so many so-called 5 star chain hotels in Paris that charge these prices and more and they're an utter disappointment. Bland, forgettable and sterile. The Hotel Particulier is a gem and one that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Other than a nice location in a charming neighborhood, this hotel is a huge disappointment. The room I booked was tacky and dingy, with cheap furniture with upholstery that had clearly seen better days, and a musty, stale smell. Housekeeping doused the room with perfume or some sort of unpleasant air freshener the second day (and I hadn't even complained about the smell in the room--they clearly noticed it themselves and tried to cover it up). The public area feels like an overstuffed mess, and was not a place in which I felt like I could relax, since the hotel proprietors seemed to hang out in that space themselves--it's very limited. No room service or any of the amenities of a five-star hotel, yet the price is in the same league as hotels of real quality. A total disappointment, only partially redeemed by the pleasure of staying in such a beautiful neighborhood.
