“Good price, good location, good enough!”
Reviewed 5 November 2011

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Carladez in August 2011. We were very pleased with the price and the location of the hotel - within 5 min walk to a Metro line and we walked to the Eiffel Tower in about 25 mins. The room was small but a perfectly adequate size for 2 people, and was spotlessly clean. The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. We would definitely stay here again, and thought it was good value for money (in Paris terms!).

Room Tip: We stayed at the back of the hotel on the 5th floor - it was fairly quiet.

3 weeks before I arrived I sent a e-mail to the hotel and asked for a quiet room at the top floor. I got an answer and was told that all the rooms at the hotel were quiet. The noise from the traffic beside the hotel was terrible. I could not sleep with windows open. The mattress in the bed was too hard. It was difficult to get a goodnight sleep. Good repainted bathroom. Friendly staff which hardly speak english. Will I ever come back? Never. My advice to you if you are a light sleeper. Stay away from this hotel.

We found this hotel on Trip Advisor and we are very happy to say we loved our stay there. We wanted to stay out the city centre on a good metro line and be in a local communtiy. This area lived up to everything we wanted. Local markets, good food shopping and lovely loval parks. The metro line was only about 200 mtrs away. Hotel was okay, would not bother with the breakfast though. Our room was on the third floor and was fine. We liked that this was only a small hotel and were pleased with the cleanleness and the room. We would stay there again.

The Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. It was in a nice area and an easy 5 minute walk or less to the metro. The shops and cafe's in the area were very nice also

I really enjoyed our stay at the Carladez. It was located close enough to "attractions" but far enough away from the typical tourist areas, and the price was excellent. We were able to experience what I thought to be a very typical slice of a Parisian neighborhood. There was a metro stop about a 5 minute walk and the area had everything very close by, from an ATM to a post office to a cafe to a grocery store. Do yourself a favor and stop in one of the bread shops, called boulangers, cafes, our personal favorite Les Artisans right around the corner, or go to the chocolate and pastry store, Lenotre Lecourbe just down the street, for some fantastic chocolate and pastries.

I thought the room was spacious, by European standards, and clean. The bathroom was modern and big. The staff was extremely helpful, and even though there was a language barrier, they did their best to make sure we had what we needed or knew where we needed to go. As a bonus, there is also an elevator to help get your heavy bags up to the top floor.

I wouldn't really call these next things downsides, but the reviews I found most helpful when we were looking for places to stay were the ones that had the most information. One thing was that although the WiFi was free it was worse than dial up. The download speeds averaged about 17KB/sec and yes that's KB. This wasn't a huge deal for us because we didn't really need to use our laptop that much but I could see if someone was staying here counting on the WiFi they would be disappointed.

The other thing is, I don't know how hot it gets to be in the summer time in Paris, but we were there the first week of April and it got a little bit warm at night. The hotel has a heater in the room, but there is no air conditioning. We were able to open the windows at night, but there are some cafes nearby that stayed open fairly late, and so this added some street noise. Nothing a long day of sightseeing can't cure because we were usually too tired to have that bother us, but if you are a light sleeper this could potentially be an issue.

The only other thing that might be a possible con for some people is that you have to leave the key with the front desk when you leave, but there is a safe in the room and there is someone at the desk 24 hours a day. I personally didn't mind this because it's one less thing to worry about when you're sightseeing, and from what I heard from a few people in Paris is that pickpocketing is a pretty big industry there, so it's probably more for your safety anyway.

Overall though this was a fantastic place to stay. The location and the price are right and the staff was very friendly.

PROS:

Cleanliness

CONS:
Slow WiFi
No Air Conditioning
