......…of French decorative arts are in countries other than France, particular Britain and America. The Camondo, on the other hand, shows some of the best in France of the 18thC, in furniture, ormolu, porcelains Oriental and French, textiles and objects of everyday grand-luxe, in an admittedly 19thC setting, but brilliantly evoking an earlier period, with charming views over the garden to the parc Monceau.
The quality is astounding and the juxtaposition of periods, styles, materials and techniques is both instructive and aesthetically pleasing, so much better than the cold, over-lit sterility of the Louvre or the musée des arts Decoratif. ‘Spot-the-Masterpiece’ is an easy game here and kids of all ages will love it.
