Hotel du Quai-Voltaire
Ranked #980 of 1,809 Hotels in Paris
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 20 February 2012

Warning: if you are expecting a plastic-fantastic Holiday Inn or a museum like the Ritz with King Midas prices, this is definitely not the hotel for you.

The concept of the Quai Voltaire is simple: clean room (nice-sized), clean bathroom (again, nice-sized), with rooms overlooking the Seine and the Louvre and Jardin des Tuileries on the opposite bank. There is a bridge, the Pont Carrousel, right outside the door. The Musee D'Orsay is right up the street, within spitting distance, and the D'Orsay Metro stop will take you down to Versailles. Behind the hotel is the upscale St Germain des Pres neighborhood, crammed with antique shops and little restaurants. The hotel has a small tapestry-hung lounge, a simple breakfast-room, and a tiny reception area. If you are a light sleeper, the traffic outside on the road may be an issue. For the price and the location, the Quai Voltaire is the way to go.

Look I have no idea how this hotel is so far down the rating for Paris...if you are looking for a big modern chain like hotel this is not for you...but if you are looking for the classic Parisseinne small type old boutique type hotel well this is great. The rooms are very small but we paid extra for the bigger size. We had room 41 and my sister and her daughter had room 31 which was way bigger than ours (although we had a balcony but didnt really need it). The buzz and view is just like a picture. The Seine below and The Louvre straight across. Every day/night we explored the streets behind and tried a different bistro/cafe each day. The homewares shops were breath taking and it is a great little area. Try Eric Kayser cafe for gorgeous cakes just close by. The bathroom was spotless, yes towels not huge and fluffy but they were fine and anything we asked for we got straight away. Yes there is one very rude man on reception but the rest of the staff were very friendly. (not sure if it would be too hot to stay here in summer though?) Tiny elevator. Yes a little noisy but it just added to the buzz and Paris is a huge and busy city.

The manager is nice&friendly lady.
Housekeeper is very good man ,the last day we check out and forgot the shirt and brandname sunglass ,he ran dowstair to give to us 2 times,so appreciated!!! 5stars +++++
room not too big but it's ok ,we r from USA no need to bring adaptor for electric stuff caz they have outlet in the bathroom (Thanks god) and we met the good taxi-van driver from the airport can put 8 people in the same time ,he is Chinese but born in France ,can speak english so we hire him next day to visit Versailles only 90 Euro and wait for us to back to the hotel too,so the last day he pick up us to airport only 70 Euro. His phone 06-11-50-65-82 (JO)

I booked this hotel 8 months before our visit to Paris. I read the then, current reviews. I now experienced the hotel. Ahh....It is ONLY OK. We had room 51, 5th floor, great view of the Lourve and the bridges. The view is great if one appreciates it. Our stay was on Tues, Wed, Thurs. The street noise is managable, but not over-whelming. One gets use to it. You are in the middle of the big city life. The hotel should not be faulted for the location. The room was small, old, quaint, shabby French, worn desk. Mattress was full size, low and hard. The linens were updated. It had a room safe, good storage closet. Bathroom was clean but dated. Bath towels were thin and no wash cloths, of course. The bathtub was an old high-sided to step in to. Or the tub floor is higher than the bathroom floor. The tub drainage was slow. Toiletries were lame, with only small packets of liquid body soap and shoe shine! Front desk for the day and night shift were business like. Not very pleasant, and acted like they are tired of the tourist industry. Upon leaving with our bags on the 5th floor, we discovered the elevator was out of order! It would have been helpful to post signs on each floor-OUT OF ORDER! The man at the reception desk said he called our room at the 11am check out time. He said since we did not answer the phone, he thought we were showering! NO- we were waiting for a broken, cramped elevator! Lots of fun taking luggage down 5 flights of stairs. At least the male maid helped carry a piece of luggage down the 5 flights and he did not expect a tip. If the VIEW is most important, stay here.

We stayed here for just 1 night in November and we Thanked our stars we did'nt book this hotel for more than 1 night. It was terrible, the bed they have for 2 ppl is good for just on 1 person. Very unfriendly staff who think they are doing a favor by having guests in, no soaps and shampoos, the water does not drain in the tub, very noisy as it is right on the street. Not a good experience.

We were regretting not having stayed in another hotel that we had booked for 5 nights. The only thing this hotel has going for itself is its location. Right on the Siene river , it is close to a very bustling nice neighborhood. We were glad we only stayed for only a few several hours in this hotel. Definitely not worth it!!!
