“Charming French Hotel”
Reviewed 4 November 2011

Loved the hotel It suited us perfectly- a twin inner room on the courtyard. We were not sure due to a health problem of my daughter who was to travel with me that we would even be able to make the trip. I cancelled the reservation the week before and rebooked with no problem the next week after she could travel. An immediate reply.
As mentioned in the previous review it is so conveniently located to nearby sights such as Notre Dame etc. as well as the Metro.
The room had a flat screen TV as well as nice decor.
There are restaurants nearby.

The staff of guys could have not been more helpful. They made phone calls and called a cab for us to the riverboat we were traveling on to Normandy. When the internet for emails which is free would not work one of the guys worked hard to try to send our emails.
We ate breakfast there which was a typical French breakfast served by the nicest guy.
This room was more spacious than a room we had stayed on in a previous trip to Paris.
Definitely we would stayed at the Danube again.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room book an inner one.

The Hotel Danube is a lovely and charming place. A quick walk from the Musee D'orsay and the D'Orsay Metro & RER, the Danube is only two blocks from the Blvd. Saint Germain, and just a short walk across the river from the Louvre. The staff is efficient, professional, and friendly. The room we had was one of the hotel's "contemporary" rooms which was a bit pricey but still a good value when we considered the condition of the hotel and the spaciousness of the room; quite spacious for Paris. It was large, well-appointed, and had a comfortable seating area. The room had a comfortable large bed, a large dresser and closet, a very efficient ventilation system, and wonderful sound proofing. The marble bathroom had a separate shower and tub and a double sink. The staff was professional, helpful, and available to assist in planning, making restaurant reservations, calling taxis, helping with luggage, etc. The breakfast room was charming & immaculate. The continental breakfast fare was delicious and included fresh-squeezed orange juice.

This isn't so much of a review as it is a warning. I made a reservation online and cancelled it once my plans changed. Much to my surprise, I received an email from the hotel saying I was being charged for the first night. I attempted to dispute the charge and even went into the hotel twice to discuss. There was no flexibility. I am confident that I did cancel so be sure to cancel twice or three times to confirm.

Needless to say, I won't be staying here on my next trip to Paris

Dear guest,

We are sorry that we did not have the pleasure to welcome you in Hotel du Danube at the dates you were supposed to be with us.

But, according to our cancellation policy, 1-night penalty is applied in case of no-show or if your reservation is not cancelled 3 days before arrival.

We checked carefully our records and we did not find any cancellation of your booking. This is why we informed you by email that your credit card was going to be charged for 1 night as penalty.

We also mentioned in the same email that in case you find and provide us a copy of your cancellation, we will refund you.

We regret this incident and hope that you understand our position in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

My daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Danube in a superior room for 3 nights last week and had a wonderful few day in Paris. A company called Concierge de Mode recommended the hotel and we were absolutely delighted. Our room was large by Parisian standards with very good bathroom. The location is amazing and in the years I have been staying in this wonderful city, and staying in all sorts of different hotels and locations, the Danube certainly delivered all that we required. The front desk were so friendly and happy to answer any questions. The slightly elderly (!) gentleman who was behind the desk at night was an especially jolly chap! The only slight criticisim was the coffee and tea at breakfast which could have been better. All in all, a lovely base for your trip to Paris, and a hotel that I would highly recommend. By the way Concierge de Mode is a brilliant little company who will book restaurants, shows, shopping and advise on different things to do in Paris which the average tourist would not know about.

Room Tip: We chose a courtyard facing room and slept soundly

We stayed on the 5th floor at the Hotel Danube, in one of the renovated large rooms facing the street. The hotel is in a very good location, near the Musee d'Orsay. Our room was large and modern, with a very large bathroom. I really liked it, although my wife said she would have preferred one of the smaller rooms with antiques. Breakfast is expensive, and not included. The next time we go to Paris we will stay in the Marais, which is more interesting and less touristy than St. Germain.
