We purchased tickets to see the opera/ballet Orpheus and Eudydice. Such an absolutely elegant Opera House- the exquisite lobby and velvet balcony seats were only topped by the amazing Marc Chagall painted ceiling!
Treat yourselves, folks- go see at production at the Opera Garnier.

Wonderful site, magnificent on every way. The ambiance marvelous, and what a histoire. A must visit on any tour de Paris.

I was fortunate enough by chance to purchase a ticket to see the opera the same evening I was touring Boulevard Haussmann for €10. This allowed me access to the stunningly beautiful Palais Garnier, as well as enjoy a performance (Bartok’s unusual Château de Barbe-Bleue).

Photos do not do the ornate and opulent architecture of this historic musical Mecca justice. The facade of the front face sculptures represent a number of famous composers, and the golden angels above of Harmony and Poetry. The interior of the grand staircase and grand foyer are so expansive yet intricately detailed in design. Finally the main auditorium, made more famous in contemporary times with the Phantom of the Opera, breathes classic grandeur - the chandelier a sight to behold.

A truly memorable evening that were I a resident of Paris, I would be a regular subscription holder and never tire of its beauty - but as a tourist, an icon of Paris not to be missed!

You can sit on the steps for an awesome view down one of the busiest streets of Paris. Just around the corner, it continues into a beautiful restaurant/lounge.

The Opera house is much bigger than I remember. Fits nicely to the fine streets in central Paris. I haven't been able to go inside this time but remember that the interior is magestic. The modern painting of Chagall fits well with the rest of the building.
