Owner description: The Arc de triomphe was begun in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon I to honour the victories of his Grande Armée. Inspired by the great arches of antiquity, the monument combines the commemorative with the symbolic and it has always played a major role in the national republican consciousness. Every evening, the flame is lit on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier from the Great War. An exhibition portrays the history and explains its symbolic importance, nationally as well as internationally. The terrace provides superb views both by day and night across the city and its great sweeping avenues.-Opening hours : April to September: from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; October to March: from 10 a.m. to 10.30 p.m.-Closed: 1st January, 1st May, 8th May (morning), 14th July (morning), 11th November (morning), 25th December-Entry fees: Adults = 9,5 €; Concessions = 6 €; Free admission: 18-25 years old* (citizens of one of the 27 countries of the EU or are non-European permanent residents of France) * excluding school groups

Again, amazing to see this in person and the views from the top are great. If you are in Paris for several days would definitely recommend the Museum Pass (you need to confirm it is worth the price and kids are free), but with this you skip all the ticket lines (still need to get in the same line after tickets for security). The day we want this probably saved us at least 1 hour, and for all the museums we visited it made entry quick and easy. Only once did the make us get separate free tickets for the kids.

Arc de Triomphe is obviously worth the visit and the views/pictures.

Took the kids yesterday after a stroll up the Champs-Elysées. There was virtually no line. The stairs are enough of a challenge that it is fun and you feel accomplished, but not daunting. The stairs and the view from the top are great for photos. There is a cute gift shop too. The whole experience could take about 1/2 hour, or you could draw it out to an hour. The price is right and kids are free.

The night time view from up atop is an absolute must to begin a trip and especially to end it. So much fun the see the lights, to see where you have gone, and to see that in fact the Aclrc de Triomphe is the center of all things.

We ended up at the Arc de Triomphe after walking down the Champs-Elysees from the Louvre. At 4:30pm or so on a Saturday in March, the line to get up the Arc de Triomphe had about 50 people to get up. I had read in a travel guide that I would need to wait in line to get tickets for the kids, even though my wife and I had Museum Passes. Fortunately, I asked the attendant at the front of the line, and he said that no, we were fine. So we were able to skip the entire ticket line and go right up the first flight of stairs to the security entrance. We then waited for about 5 minutes to get through security.

Be warned - the walk up is not for the out-of-shape. Fortunately, there are a couple of places on the stairs (about half-way up and then three-quarters way up) where you can pull off to the side and catch your breath. And then at the top, there are benches where you can actually sit down and catch your breath. Once at the top, we spent about 30 minutes soaking in the view.

If you have the Museum Pass and can skip the line, then this is well worth it; however, I'm not sure I'd wait 2+ hours to get in, particularly if you're going anywhere else with a view (Eiffel Tower, Montparnasse Tower, Towers of Notre Dame).

Our enjoyable Saturday in March involved the Louvre, followed by lunch in the Tuilieries Gardens, the Musee L'Orangerie, walking down the Champs-Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe, cabbing to the Eiffel Tower for a ground-level view, and then finding a little restaurant nearby the Eiffel Tower for dinner.
