“Central location, new”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

I've chosen the Gat Folies after having read other members advices and can confirm the general positive feedback. Location is OK, 200 mt from the nearest metro and 15-20 minutes away from the centre. Easily reachable from CDG apt via RER to Gare du Nord and 55 minutes by taxi. Building is completely renovated, services are OK, breakfast good and wifi free. I found only one negative point: the space available is very limited, wherever you are in the hotel. My room was max 12-13 sqm including bathroom and shower, breakfast area, if crowded, might be a problem. Thus if you do not mind about the space, this hotel is a good choice. Staff friendly. Good price/quality ratio.

We stayed in the Hotel Gat Folies in October 2011. The location of the hotel is good; only a short walk to metro. Our room was very small (but I guess that's quite common in Paris) and there wasn't any place to luggage. The hotel furnishing is nice and trendy. Breakfast wasn't included to the room rate, but it was possible to buy it during check-in (10 €/person). Although there are many restaurants and cafes nearby serving breakfast too.

Booked a quick break from England in Paris on the Eurostar. Had a stab in the dark in terms of location to stay, chose the Opera district and chose the Hotel Gat Follies as it looked good on the internet.

Now at the time of booking this hotel, February 2011 for a stay in April 2011, the reviews were confusing. Some were really terrible and others really positive. A little digging seemed to suggest that the Hotel Gat Follies was a new hotel that had been created from the remains of a tired old hotel. This explained the bad reviews, for the old hotel, and the positive ones for Gat Follies.

So the location, the hotel is situated in the Opera district practically on top of the Follies Bergere. The immediate area seems to be ok, the main road near to the hotel gets fairly busy on an evening and there are a number of supermarkets, some that open later than others. There is a restaurant nearly next door to the hotel which served nice food. On the first night however, we had a walk to find somewhere nice to eat, and within about a 15 minute walk there is lots of choice. During the day it is within walking distance of the Gallery Lafayette from where you are in walking distance, if you're ok on your feet, to get around Paris and see the sights.

The owners have, in my opinion, done a great job in renovating this place. The rooms seem to vary in size and I wouldn't describe our rooms a spacious, but suited us for what we needed. Our room had a really nice full size window which opened inwards. This meant that in the morning you could throw those curtains wide and take in the Parisian morning sun and see Paris go about it's business. The rooms came with a typical room safe, LCD TV and best of all, free WiFi in the hotel room! The beds were great, no problems sleeping! Staff were really friendly.

The breakfast was obviously continental, however was one of the better continental breakfasts that I've ever had.

In summary, if you are going to Paris I would give this hotel serious consideration!

Got a good deal through travel zoo vouchers for the hotel and at £68 a night including breakfast, champagne and chocolates each day, was great value for Paris.

Hotel is modern and funky, rooms were nice- first room the toilet door kept sliding open, the safe didn't work and the tv was on the blink. Moved to another room which was larger and everything worked.

Great location between cadet and grands boulevards metros and a short walk to opera or galleries Lafayette.

If I saw the deal again, would go again; we were charged €4 on departure for some tax or other which I suspect was made up; couldn't be bothered arguing for the amount, but it left a slightly bad taste that this wasnt included in the room rate.

We stayed in the Hotel Gat Follies during July, and it was an uncomfortable stay overall. The double beds are tiny, and the temperature was too warm (being summer) with no a/c and loud street noise from outside if the window was opened for some cool air. The 6th floor rooms have a slanted wall attached to the roof, making the room even smaller. Additionally our room was right next to the elevator and you could hear it going all night long. I read all the great reviews on TA before booking and want to save anyone else from the same unpleasant experience that we had.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the 6th floor - ours was small, hot and with a slanted wall
