Usually one enters a church or chapel to see yet another array of religious pictograms. This Sainte-Chappelle is unique in its depiction of the life of King Louis, from birth to death. One side of the chapel relates the story of his rise to sainthood, with his dual roles between religion and governship. The other depicts his crusades, with ships in full sail. The descptive cards give part of the story. Purchase of the very informative book by Historian Marie-Pierre Terrien goes into great detail, with the English version unfortunately having less of the references and pictures. It is best viewed on a sunny day when the glorious colours shine through.
