We were travelling through France and looking for an overnight stop and Michelin meal. This hotel seemed to tick the box, and from their web site looks rather luxurious. On arrival it looked a bit more Little Chef! The staff were friendly enough and despite arriving 2 hours late were more than happy to serve us in their restaurant. And wow, I am grateful they did.

The hotel room itself was functional, a good size bed, chair, desk all the normal things. The jacuzzi took a bit of experimentation to make it work, but there was some devent soap. The only small issue was a tiny loo in it's own little room. Very little room to turn around let alone swing the cat.

As for the food, we did arrive 2 hours late, they had a large party filling one whole room and we were in the second room. Yet the service was amazing and the food even better. A little worried we were to be presented with lots of microscopically enhanced science food, instead we received proper well made and presented grub. Whilst the menu was 'simple' it was perfectly made and immaculately served. The cheese 'board' contained more types that your average cheese shop. The pudding 'selection' extended to three plates, with 3 or 5 dishes on each plate, absolutely out of this world.

Whilst the hotel is fine, the food is amazing.

We were relegated to the hot, cramped, attic 4-person chamber that I think is reserved for people that the hotel staff did not like very much - and the senior manager was quite noticeably rude to my husband who was being polite and friendly, while he enquired about dinner reservations for two that night, thus causing my two daughters to be very upset. We called ahead to our hotel in Chartres and asked to arrive a day early, cutting short our stay in Blois. Overall, we were unimpressed.

The location is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the center of town, and about 5 minutes walk from the train station. Parking is free (if you are using a GPS go one additional exit on the roundabout and the parking will be just on your right). The room we had reminded me of a cross between a generic European hotel room and a generic US motel/hotel room. It was clean and comfortable. There is no elevator, so plan to carry your luggage up the stairs if you are on the first floor (Europeans call the ground floor "0").
The restaurant was absolutely fantastic and very reasonably priced for the kind of meal served. They had no issues adjusting to the fact that I'm a vegetarian.
The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The Wi-Fi internet was free. Breakfast, like most French hotels, was severely overpriced.

We booked this hotel based on a highly recommended review from Fodors - if only we had went to Tripadvisor first.
Contrary to what Fodors stated this is probably equivalent to a below average roadside motel.

The hotel is not conveniently located - about a 20 minute walk from the city center on the side of a busy road. Our view from our room was of that of a roundabout which was around 25 yards away (made opening the window not an option due to the noise and concerns about fumes).

Staff were friendly but it seemed that the main focus of this business was the restaurant with the hotel being a bit of a sideline.

The air-conditioning unit was making a strange noise and when I looked closer (and poked around a little) a large cluster of bugs fell from where the air filter was located.

Be careful if you need to check out early as it seems the front desk doesn't get staffed until later in the morning (we waited from 6:15am to 7:30am on a Saturday morning for someone to show but ended up just leaving a note and settling up our bill later).

There's no way that we can see how this hotel holds a 3-star rating - badly needs updated and location is pretty bad.

We called the Hotel Medicis after the hotel we had originally booked in Vouvray (Domaine des Bidaudieres) turned out to be not to our expectations. When we arrived at the Medici...we were warmly greeted and led up to our triple suite on the 3rd floor (beware that there is no elevator!).

Our room was beautiful...decorated in red and white...simply charming. And it was absolutely immaculate! There was a seperate bedroom with large bed...very comfy. And in the living room there was a large pull-out sofa for our 7 year old. There was also a mini-fridge which came in handy.

The hotel is very charming. We heard that the restaurant was amazing, but unforunately did not have the time to enjoy a meal there. The location, although not miles away from the city centre of Blois, was not close enough to walk to...at least with a 7 year old. But if you have a car, there is plenty of parking.

If you are looking for a base to explore Blois and the surrounding Loire, than Le Medicis is perfect for a few nights. We would certainly stay at Le Medicis again.
