“At home in the centre of Beaune”
Reviewed 21 September 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The Rose apartment is perfectly situated in the centre of Beaune, allowing direct access and easy strolling in the charming streets of the old city (it would, of course, be even better if there were at least a few streets without car driving in the city, but no…). You can conveniently park your car at a parking lot close by (follow the instructions given by the owner) and bring your luggage to the apartment only a short walk away. The parking lot is free of charge and it is very practical as Beaune has many one-way streets. You can leave your car there for the duration of your stay.

The apartment is located on the top floor and accessed through narrow stairs, typical of the area. You should be aware of it, if you have difficulties walking steep, winding stairs. You will enter the flat next to the kitchen, with place for hanging coats behind the entrance door and leaving shoes in front of the door. A cosy sitting room, in continuation with the open kitchen, makes preparing diner very social. There is everything needed (water boiler, coffee machine, oven, microwave, dish washer, wine cooler).

There are two comfortable double bedrooms, convenient for two couples or 4 friends who are not ”afraid” to share double beds. We did not use the sofa as a bed so we cannot comment on the sleeping quality there. The apartment is very pleasant, nicely decorated, and quiet. You should, however, be aware of the clocks chiming from across the street, we found it charming though…

If you are renting bikes (for example at the well equipped Bourgogne Randonnees), it is possible to park two bikes in the courtyard (one just inside of the ground floor door and under the stairs, and one outside along the wall right over the stairs leading to the cellar).

The bathroom is equipped with a shower. The toilets are separated from the bathroom, which is practical if several couples are sharing the flat (even if of small size). The apartment is bright, with roof windows facing opposite directions. The neighbours, seldom to encounter, seem to care for their calm, so guests seeking for relaxing stay (as us) will be more preferable than ones wanting to party.

You may find a bakery further on your right in rue de Lorraine. There is a large Casino supermarket at Faubourg Madeleine (with parking) and a bio shop just besides it, if you need groceries. There are also a lot of restaurants (we enjoyed food at the newly open ”les popiettes”). If you are in the mood for shopping, you will find enough small shops to spend a few days discovering them. The city has also several valuable museums. And certainly, do not miss Hotel Dieu; it is – beyond doubt – worth a visit.

If you prefer walking/bicycling, you will find roads reserved for it (ask for maps as at the tourist office or at your bike rental). The cities of Dijon and Chalon sur Saone are charming too for a day visit. The abbayes of Citeaux and Fontenay are not to be missed. The first one requires internet/phone booking in advance. We warmly recommend the spicy cake and the cheese made by the monks at Citeaux.

“Spacious, well-organised and cosy appartment”
Reviewed 23 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a fantastic stay in this apartment, the location is perfect (5 min walk from the city centre and 5 min walk from Porte St Nicholas where you can park for free) and the owner thought about virtually everything, from an iron to a laptop. We found the information pack really useful and the visitor's book too, we recommend you have a good look through both of them at the beginning of your stay to find ideas and good places to eat/go out.
The apartment is very comfortable and the size was perfect for the four of us but because it is on the third floor with no lift, it would be quite inconvenient for elderly people or even young children.
The owner is friendly and kind, he called from Australia to make sure that everything was okay with the flat and he even organised for a forgotten item to be sent back to us.

Liked best: the location, the decoration and the homely feel
Liked least: The beds were not very comfortable and the confirmation email didn't say where the flat was exactly! The narrow staircase and the three floors make this place very hard to access for older people or people with disabilities.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the condition of our beds. Following your comments we have now installed mattress protectors on all beds and - having tested them ourselves - find that they are very comfortable indeed.

“Perfect stay, Highly recommended”
Reviewed 21 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We had a wonderful time in Beaune, feeling completely at home in this beautiful sun drenched apartment. Everything is catered for, perfect location, good kitchen and qualilty kitchenware, fast internet connection and a laptop for use in the apartment, comfy couch and lots of information on the town available both from guides and from the Roses themselves. Even though Graeme, the owner, lives in Australia he was extremely helpful and communicative and there is a local english speaking apartment manager in case of any problrms. Overall the best holiday letting I've experienced
