This is a real trip to past glories! The rooms cleverly combine old-fashioned elegance and well-crafted refurbishments: the beds are fabulously comfortable, the linen luxurious, the bathrooms large and well-appointed. The hallways do look a little shabby, with the carpeting getting a little theadbare here and there, and in the halls of some floors you cannot ignore the presence of the spa as the air is a bit damp and smells of the essential oils and sea-water treatments- considering the price, this should be remedied. This feels like what I imagine Proust might have experienced! Two restaurants: I prefer the Cap Horn with its splendid view, to the Verriere which is on the lower ground floor and thus virtually windowless.

I felt like I was in the 1920’s going for a wellness stay at a seaside resort! I’d go back just for the aquatic spa! The thermal sea water was divine!
Excellent breakfast buffet. We didn’t eat dinner in the gourmet dining room, and the food in the other restaurant was okay. The near by town of old St Malo was charming. Go in July when the sales are on in the stores!

Stayed there a full week. Evaluation is only for the hotel. See the Thalassotherapy center and the restaurants for their own evaluations.

Upsides:
- Full shutters in room so completely dark for perfect sleep.
- Free shuttle to/from the train station.
- Very helpful maids.
- So small, it's possible to have twin beds.
- No noise!

Downsides:
- Waited 30 minutes for the shuttle at the train station because number of arriving guests was not adequately measured.
- Thick carpeting in the room... so we "benefited" from numerous long dark hair from previous guest all week long.
- Prepare to be a gymnast if you want to shut the toilet door. As a consequence, the space is not really clean either.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel. I’m sure our experience would have been different if we had come to enjoy the spa. Our room was in the new, supposedly renovated section. The smell in the hall has dissipated since our arrival. The room is small with a saggy bed. Linens are crisp, white and clean. Towels are not full and fluffy. Bathrobes are provided and many spa clients are wearing these comfy robes around the hotel. The Cape Horn Restauant is excellent. Dinner is very leisurely, beautifully served and prepared. The staff surely aims to please. Polite, professional and helpful. 5 stars to the staff.
