“Tucked away in the walls”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

We stayed at this very ancient hotel tucked away in the walls of st Malo and loved it. We haggled on the price and knocked the room rate down 20E ! we had a great room right at the top of the building. Spacious, light, airey and wonderful views accross to dinard.
Owner very nice and friendly.
And it even came with its own pet seagull, who would be there every morning for titbits, and would feed from the palm of your hand.
really nice little place.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the top overlooking the sea to Dinard-comes with a pet seagull !

I stayed here in early August this year (2011) and had a great stay. The room was only small, but it was comfortable and had tea and coffee making facilities. We also had a small wardrobe, a television, and a small bathroom. There is no lift, so you'll have to walk some stairs, but it was no problem at all. We also paid extra to take breakfast in the morning. It was a good choice. The staff were really friendly and there was a good choice of food - the hot chocolate was delicious. Staff were great all the time and gave us plenty of good advice and helped us arrange a cab on the last day.

The location is great, about 10 seconds to the water. The whole town is easy to walk around. You can get to the ferry station in about 5 minutes or so and get across to Dinard which was also worth a look. Loved this hotel.

This hotel has a great location , 10 steps from the sea. It is part of the walls that surround the old city part (intramuros). View out of the windows was fantastic. A gate in the old wall gives direct access to the sea. Shops and restaurants are nearby. I would recommend staying inside the old city to get a real sense of Saint-Malo.
We stayed in a family room for...3 rooms -- entrance room with bed and table, 2 bedrooms with a bed and table. Kettles are provided. Bathroom was all new ( a little cramped if you are over 6 ft tall). Our room was on the top floor so a bit of hike up the stairs. You have a key with a code, so you can go in and out whenever you want, even very late.

Located in the heart of the fortified city, the Hotel de la porte St Pierre is right next to the sea, with a magic view on the Grand and Petit Be Islands.

The Hotel is in an old house and there is no elevator... So old & tired people careful! We had a room on the 3rd floor ... facing the city! But they have 9 rooms facing the sea.. so do not forget to ask. The room was small and globaly in a good shape, only the carpet was looking seriously old. But otherwise, we had all the facilities for a stop-over! (TV, complete bathroom, samll desk, closet and safe) One more comment about the Hotel: The walls are thin!

As we were leaving early for the Mont St Michel the next morning, we didnt avail their breakfast. (Wi-Fi is available in the lobby) The receptionist lady has been nice enough to give us informations about le Mont St Michel, and we have been gently welcomed.

One more tip, careful if you come with your car and park inside the old city, the parking is at 2 euros per hour!!! No prefered rate for the Hotel. Parking ouside the city is 1.5 euros per hour! Better take a bus!

This small hotel is beautiful, it looks like it has recently been refubished! We stayed only for 1 night but the location, the people, the accommodation & the breakfast all fantastic.
WE had been staying at the Mercure just outside the walled city, see that review.
When we went for an early morning walk into the city to take some photos and find some breakfast we stumbled upon Hotel Porte Saint - Pierre, we had a fantastic breakfast and noticed they had a special for rooms, EUR60 for the night - there are 2 adults and 1 child - we asked to see the room and although basic it was obviously renovated and the really fresh so we stayed!!
Also at this time parking is free in the city, Feb & Mar - I think and this was a real bonus also.
The entire city is an experience and worth a stay.
