I was at La Reserve once with a group of colleagues and it was not the best night to go out. But at La Reserve not only the food is very good but they get out of their way to accommodate your needs. Unless it was a fluke, service is friendly and they deliver.

We had dinner outside, the staff was friendly and the food was made of high quality ingredients, but still lacked a final touch.
Starters:
Foie gras - always a good choice
Salmon and blinis - very nice, but had nothing to do with real blinis
Mains:
Duck n' legumes - was very nice, slightly underseasoned
Lamb shank with couscous - good but underseasoned
Dessert:
Mille-feuille - was excellent

Overall a very nice experience. Recommended for a good, solid dinner.

This restaurant is situated between the busy shopping area and the historic part of the city. Inside it is full of French atmosphere in which you will soon feel comfortable and ready for the excellent quality food they serve. It never fails to disappoint and is well presented on plates which are hot so that the food stays edible until the plate is empty. You are not rushed here, you have the table for the evening and the service is excellent. A big plus is that in the summer you don't have to sit inside but instead in a comfortable veranda and as you eat you can watch the world go buy. Not so good is that some inconsiderate people think it is OK to smoke at the table. It might be allowed by French law but it is inconsiderate especially as the restaurant provides a comfortable place to smoke where people on adjacent tables are not troubled. Some did go to the barrel to smoke (see photo) and some even went there to vape. Why were the only ones smoking in the restaurant veranda all women while the men went outside?

We were left with very positive impressions following our discovery of this friendly restaurant tucked away towards the upper end of the main street in Rennes. The staff (a couple of young men) were friendly, chatty, and efficient. The food was not just good but full of surprises: my wife loved her lentil salad with duck hearts - not something she'd tried before - whilst I was blown away by my main course of veal with carrot puree, because the puree contained kaffir lime, and that really worked. Desserts too were imaginative, with the Rennes Brest a stand out. Great wines from a short but really interesting list. Of the many restaurants we've tried in Rennes, a city we return to regularly, this really left memories.

My wife and I tried the thai "Crying Tiger", delicious. As a starter I had tartare de veau, also delicious. Same thing for the cheesecake. Lots of Breton ingredients and local suppliers to make their dishes. Nice decoration, nice lavabo in the toilets ! Great evening, we'll go back.
