“QUALITY - there's not another word for it!”
Reviewed 28 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

After reading reviews and seeking some clarifications from the Owners (prompt responses) we decided to book d'Alice and we were not in any way disappointed.

There is really little I can add to the thoughtful reviews of others but this accommodation is different in all the best ways. The owners, Catherine and Maxence who live on the estate, gave us a very warm welcome taking time to get to know us a little and then showing us to d'Alice and that was when the WOW factor kicked in.

Externally the old buildings have been beautifully & thoughtfully restored reflecting their heritage. The interior is stunning; a marriage of the classic and modern creating something special and tasteful. The furnishings, fittings and features all speak quality with no expense being spared. The owners themselves are delightfully charming people, they live on and own du Maine estate so they're about should you need assistance in any way; otherwise they exercise discretion. They are both very knowledgeable (enthusiastic) about the area and very keen to share this if requested. Maxence supplies a tourist map and can direct you to what's best to visit depending on your interests. The accommodation is part of a large private woodland estate where you can wander anywhere and although we didn't use it there is a lovely well maintained swimming pool just a minute or so from d'Alice. What a wonderful place to relax and enjoy; the village of Cubjac too is just a delight with its weekly market, bakery, butcher and tabac. All very friendly.

We are avid self caterers and always look for first class, clean and well appointed accommodation and there is no doubt in our minds that du Maine is up among the very best we've experienced. I booked through Holiday Lettings (TripAdvisor) and could have booked direct with the owners and saved them and us some money, I would book direct next time although it should be said there are some safeguards with Holiday Lettings.

Its not an issue of, will be return to duMaine? its more an issue of when........

In all: very high quality accommodation owned and managed by very lovely people - a winning combination and well worth the money and effort to get there.

“A little piece of heaven!”
Reviewed 10 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed for a week in September 2014. The setting is absolutely delightful and we stayed in one of the 4 cottages called la Cuisine d'Alice which is part of a private old French country estate. The owners were extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful and went out of their way to make our visit as enjoyable as possible - giving us advice on visiting markets, brocantes, etc. The location is very peaceful and beautiful and our cottage was a perfect mix of a traditional stone farmhouse, with all modern amenities. If you are looking for a luxury and romantic self catering in the Dordogne, then this is your place! We hope to go back for another stay in not the distant future.

“Great old building perfectly renovated”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Maxence and Francoise renovated the property respecting the buiding and adding creativity. We were in the Cuisine d'Alice, one of the houses which are all great. We enjoyed the swimming pool which is 12 long.
We are in the country and close to Cubjac village, where we could go by bike (kindly made available by Maxence and Francoise) in five minutes.

“Forever Memorable”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 for a stay in March 2014

In reviewing the pictures and comments for this wonderful property we are not sure how much more we could add- its all of this and more. The location is perfect for all the wonderful day trips we made in the Dordogne area. Special was our return home each night with a lovely dinner, with fresh bread from the local bakery, a glass of wine and a roaring fire. With Maxence and Catharine's advice and fantastic directions, we were able to find destinations and markets off the beaten track, areas that were not found in our tour books. The property has beautiful wooded trails, gorgeous gardens, and of course, our new found friend Zebulon, the pet donkey, who greeted us home each evening. We plan to return as soon as we can with our daughters to make more "Forever Memories"
