We recently stayed here over New Years. Hotel is lovely, and we walked from the train station as we didn't have much luggage to pull. Maybe 15 minute walk?

Sophie at the counter was helpful, though the reception area is small, and we had to call out to find someone to talk to a couple times when we stopped there. We felt bad as Sophie carried up our luggage. We would have but she told us to leave it and someone would bring it. Next thing we know she brought it up. We expected a male bellhop and felt bad for her. Our room was two flights up and there is no elevator for that section. We had room 14.

Beautiful room, nice sized bathroom for Europe. Appreciated the heated towel rack very much. Shower set up is a bit of an issue as water can get into the bedroom area unless a towel,is laid on the floor.

There was some kind of heating problem for the room. Staff was aware of it as we were initially told the room was very hot. It was! To the extent we even went downstairs and asked if the thermostat was set correctly. We had it turned off and that was all we could do. Oh, and open the windows. We were told that was all we could do. So basically anytime we were there we kept the windows open because it was an oven otherwise. Problem with that was very apparent New Year's Eve as all the noise of the fireworks people set off and then the ensuing sirens made for a very restless night. Wasn't a deal breaker but sleep wasn't as easy as it could have been. Along that line, it was nice they gave extra pillows!

We didn't eat at the hotel; have to say for the price of the room I think breakfast should have been included. I think it was 22 euros additional? We went up to the bakery at the corner of the Grand Rue. Wonderful pastries! The hotel, did include complimentary water and juice bottles in the fridge which was appreciated.

We did have to ask for a do not disturb card for the door. Even though we put that on the door we did have one of the staff bother us one time when we were napping.

I very much liked the location; there's a good chance we will be back to Strasbourg as we just missed the Christmas markets, but I might look for another place to stay.

Beautiful hotel, centrally located. The staff is exceptional, especially at the front desk (Sophie) and the breakfast hostess (Carine). We were assisted daily with dinner reservations and directions and were also guided in arrangements for a day trip to Colmar and a departure on the train to Paris. I would love to return to Strasbourg one day and would certainly return to Le Bouclier d'Or.

We received an extremely warm welcome at this beautiful hotel, we had a large, gorgeous room (room 22) and the amenities in the room were lovely. The view over the rooftops was very pretty. The breakfast in this hotel was delicious and the cocktails in the bar were heavenly. The staff at this hotel were exceptional and went out of their way to make the visit special. This hotel really enhanced our visit to Strasbourg. It is in a great location, with shops, Christmas markets, and restaurants all nearby.

We were visiting Paris but took a 4 day side trip to Strasbourg. This hotel was charming and in a wonderful location at the edge of Petit France. Many restaurants within close walking distance. The beds were heavenly with loads of pillows.
We especially enjoyed coming back to the charming hotel bar. The bartender was totally delightful.
Also, the hotel has a large hot tub, cold dipping pool, and a dry and wet sauna. It was heavenly at the end of the day.
The staff was very accommodating and helpful. There is a delicious bakery one block from the hotel, L'ATELIER 116. All breads are made with organic flour. The pastries were absolutely fabulous, better than any we ate in Paris and they had delicious coffee! We ate breakfast there each morning. A must do!

Room tip: It is a boutique hotel so it is cozy. With windows closed we did not hear anything outside and our room faced the street.

The Hotel d’Or is located in the old city, on the edge of the Petite France area of Strasbourg. During the Christmas market from 11am – 8pm all car traffic is closed off from the old city. If you are arriving by train, you will want the taxi to drop you off at the Dunant plaza area. From there it will require a 7minute walk to the hotel.
The hotel has been completely rebuilt. The rooms are beautiful. On the lower floors they are large with high ceilings. On the top floor, where we stayed, the beams come through the room. The bar is beautiful and well stocked. The spa feels like you are in a warm grotto. Overall, a great property.
Importantly, if you are visiting Europe in the next few weeks or next year in December, do not miss the Strasbourg Christmas Market. We found it to be the best of the seven different markets we just visited during our stay.
