Hidden gem it is indeed! Took some real finding despite the benefit of Google maps! Worth it though. A beautiful and impressive interior greets your entrance! At the time we visited, some pretty heavy worship was underway which meant little opportunity to wander and wonder. However it was great to sit and drink in the surroundings and atmosphere.

Was in Manchester on Ash Wednesday so went to evening Mass here.
Really lives up to its name of "The Hidden Gem" as it took me a while to work out how to get to it.
Most ornate building inside and a lovely service for a Holy Day.

Beautiful church tucked away in Manchester City Centre. Very tranquil place to visit and celebrate a church service.

Founded in 1794, St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church originally served Manchester’s poorest people. It is now a city center parish. After a roof collapse in the 1830s the structure was rebuilt. In the 1870s three elaborate Caen stone and marble altars were created in a style combining neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque elements. The effect is splendid, yet it induces tranquility. Clashing with this fine Victorian religious art are stations of the cross created by Norman Adams, nightmarish twentieth century paintings. Open daily from 8 A.M. until 6 P.M., St. Mary’s is a fine place to pray, contemplate, or attend one of its many religious services.
