We visited this afternoon during our bike ride. Sat in the lovely beer garden, which was gated, so ideal for our toddler to run around.

We ordered 2 beers, a bag of crisps and some nuts. The nuts came in a tiny dish and considering the price of the drinks I would have expected these to have been complimentary! Ok,but over priced!

Just to say, I don’t recall ever penning a truly damning review before, but here goes.... We were eight old colleagues out to celebrate an upcoming retirement. Table booked for 10 people but I called earlier in the day to reduce this to eight. The table we were shown to was barely big enough, but we laughed this off and ordered our drinks and food. Staff seemed prompt and friendly, all good so far. Starters very nice ( apart from one measly scallop!) scotch eggs, baked Camembert, whitebait etc...

Here’s where the wheels come off. Main courses arrived. Burgers presented (2 ordered these) in the now fashionable British Pub manner with a little metal frying basket of ffs and a burger bun with a wooden skewer through it. Only one thing missing; the burgers! So they were whisked away to return 30 seconds later with the apologetic burger in situ. Unfortunately, what taste they did have was not especially pleasant. A kind of chemical, burnt-fuel flavour to them. The basket of over salted, clearly frozen fries did not compensate.

Two others ordered fish pie from the specials menu. As an interesting addition, muscles had been stuck in the mashed-potato top a-la stargazey-pie. However, for whatever reason (embarrassment possibly) the muscles themselves had disappeared. They were little, desiccated, papery-remains, which had to be piled on the side of the plate. The pie itself was dry and over-cooked. Having known the chap sitting to my right for over 25 years, I have NEVER seen him leave food on his plate. He broke his duck.

Portions were meagre and “OK” was the best review I got. We were offered free deserts (no one did) and not charged for the fish pies; not the point!!

The staff were prompt and polite, the place was as pleasant as it was was packed. But dear me it was poor. A badly run lash-up with minimal attention to quality or detail desperately trying to cash-in on current popularity; it cannot and should not last unless drastic changes are made. Will not go again and will actively discourage others. What a shame.

Food fantastic, staff very friendly. Family meal to day was just out of this world. Staff were very much on the ball and were superb.

Haven’t been here for just over a year and it had certainly gone downhill. Went as a family for an early tea, waited ages for the food and they randomly brought out one child meal ages before the other food (leaving the second child waiting to eat so no logic in that). Rump steak was fatty and tough. The smallest amount of plaice was passed off as a main course. Unpleasant desserts, waiting ages for service. Just meh all round really and such a shame as this place used to be great. We won’t be going back, the competition locally is fierce and means that other pubs are basically trying harder.

Stopped in for Sunday Lunch in this nice old Pub which, once upon a time, was a firm favourite of mine which could be relied on to deliver the goods ..... not any more. Staff were friendly but, other than that, it's difficult to think of any positives.
4 starters (garlic breads/soups) were okay but nothing special. 4 Main courses of beef(2), lamb & pork were delivered to the table after a wait of just over an hour & only then because we had to complain about the long wait.
Beef was reported as chewy & tough & defeated all attempts at cutting. The belly pork was good but the accompanying (& in my view what should be the highlight of roast pork) crackling was completely inedible - impossible to cut with a knife, impossible to fracture by bending with a fork & defied all attempts of eating with fingers & teeth!! - simply inedible. The lamb was 'quite nice' but 'nothing special'.
Vegetables were served 'al-dente' which is okay by me but these were just cold so I'm guessing they were undercooked rather than deliberately cooked this way. They were also, for the most part, unpeeled so appeared dirty. Roast Potatoes were almost black & so crispy that they also defied most attempts at eating &, when one did manage to eat one, having cut/broken it open, it was generally found to be bereft of potato on the inside!.
It used to be a pleasure visiting this establishment but no longer - a half-decent Sunday Lunch is not that difficult to prepare & serve but unfortunately this place has deteriorated so far I think it is now probably beyond help, which is a great shame.
I will not be visiting again nor will I recommend to anybody.
