The olde world charm of this character building is evident everywhere you go, the bar, the public rooms and of course your bedroom. If wood paneling and antique period styling isn't your cup of tea then don't expect to enjoy your stay, however if you put good food, good beer and friendly staff high up at the top of your list then this is the perfect place to stay.
My room, booked through work, was a single and as such wasn't the biggest i have ever stayed in but it had everything you need, comfy bed, clean en suite with a shower i could stand up in and get my hair wet (a bonus if your over six feet tall ) flat screen tv, etc.
Dont expect namby pampy nouvelle cuisine food either the pub food was freshly made, generous size and tasted great, no microwave chips here proper home made ones with skins on, great!!!
Breakfast equally as good and served quickly and with a smile which made it all the better.
The local brews in the bar were of great quality, perhaps one or two of the staff could do with a lesson in pulling a proper beer through a proper pump but the wait was worth it. Try the pubs own brew, made on the premises in its own microbrewery, certainly puts the big boy breweries to shame..
Overall a pleasant stay, easy walking distance for the University, very nice staff, good food, comfy what more do you want.....
