I worked at this hotel over 30 years ago so I looked forward to a return visit. I was pleased to see that the hotel had been restored after a really bad makeover in the 80's. We had a room at the back of the hotel. It was large and overlooked the gardens. There was a water damage on the ceiling but the comfort and cleanliness was excellent. Bathroom had a deep old fashioned bath and the water pressure meant it was filled within minutes. Had a mini afternoon tea on arrival and ate in the Wedgwood Restaurant for dinner. The deal included a bottle of wine. It was an excellent break and I reserve the best comments for the staff who were all very young but really made the effort. We will certainly revisit. Location is just outside the town centre and easily walked. parking is by permit (sent with booking) which is valid until 1400hrs on day of departure.

We were visiting Harrogate for the Northern Papercraft Show on Friday 13th and decided to stay the night before due to the early start. Having stayed at The Old Swan many times before I rang to see what deals were available and was pleasantly surprised by the £99 for dinner, bed and breakfast package for two that included a bottle of prosecco. On arrival we were dissapointed to be totally ignored by the receptionist, although she was on the phone eye contact would have been appreciated. We were given our parking permit and decided that coffee in the town centre was preferable to the hotel. We returned later, checked in and went to look for our second floor room. When we opened the door we were more than surprised to find that we had been given a suite! It was newly refurbished to a high standard, many of the rooms on my previous visits were in need of updating. Our bottle of prosecco was waiting for us and well chilled. We'd had no problem with our preferred time for dinner as the hotel was quiet. The staff in the restaurant were very attentive and the whole meal, of three courses, was delicious. Unfortunately breakfast was very poor, the staff were more interested setting tables for dinner than serving breakfast. We both ordered cooked food, my friend got fried egg which she had not asked for but no fried bread, my black pudding was uncooked so I asked for it to be cooked correctly only to have it returned still not cooked. Very disappointing. We would return again and hope things had been improved.

We visit the old swan a couple of times a year, mainly to see family in the area. We have always been highly satisfied, till our last visit. On arrival we could see the public areas of the hotel had been refurbished, we felt it wasn't in keeping with the building and made the lounge a bit anti social. We were told our room wasn't ready and we would be found a quieter room as there was a wedding on. On our return we were given the same room! It was small and in need of updating. We are privilege customers, but there was no sign of this apart from a lukewarm bottle of Prosseco, that was part of the room deal. We couldn't eat till 8-30 in the evening and we appeared to be totally invisible for the first 15 minutes we were at our table. The food was lovely, the service was haphazard. On return to our room, we had coffee as we were not offered this after our meal. The next day we were looking forward to our breakfast, we arrived in the restaurant to find out it was fully self service. The aim seemed to be, how quick can we get people in and out. The staff were quite abrupt and it just didn't seem to have the customer service we have always received in the past. I don't thnk it will be a place we choose to visit again.

We had a wonderful weekend break staying at The Old Swan. A very well managed hotel with friendly staff & good service. We upgraded & it was well worth it as the room was huge!
Would definitely stay here again.

Normally my wife and I stay at the Du Vin in Harrogate, but after hearing good reports about the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate, we decided to try it out. Really glad we did. Price very good, room excellent, food good, had more choice elsewhere, but for the cost, really excellent value. Staff very helpful, nothing too much for them to make your stay enjoyable. Kelly, in the restaurant, very helpful, and the breakfast staff just as helpful. We will definitely be using this hotel again. We want to try the Murder/ Mystery events, and just enjoy the sights and ambience of the hotel and Harrogate. If you are thinking of visiting Harrogate in the future, for a weekend or longer, you could do no worse than ring the Old Swan Hotel, and have a good, enjoyable stay there, just outside the town centre. There is a slight hill from the hotel to the town centre, but nothing too taxing. Try the hotel, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor, and apart from a bit of noise from vehicles dropping or picking up items, had a quiet and peaceful sleep, and no annoying noises from fellow residents.
