“Great Location, Great Owner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

We found the Faythe Guesthouse with surprising ease despite the dizzying array of one way streets all which seem to lead right to the place. Faythe is a cool old structure, built in the 1700s and houses 14 rooms. Damian is very prompt about replying to emails and we found him quite pleasant and full of information. He has a full list of restaurants that he suggests in various price ranges and remembered my interest in traditional music. Although the summer had passed, he still had the Wexford trad trail brochure that proved pretty useful as we went looking for tunes. It's great to have an owner who is interested in his guests and takes the time to enhance their stay. Even though the building is older, the rooms are well appointed with comfortable beds, plenty of room for suitcases, TV & DVD player, a great shower and was quite comfortable. The location is an easy walk to town and parking is plentiful which avoids the serious hassle of parking in Wexford.

The breakfast was very good, the parlor was cozy and comfortable, the host was very pleasant. However, the room (Room 1 on the ground floor) was very outdated and bordered on shabby. The "pleather" headboards and throw pillows were awful. One of the fabric covered chairs had a big stain on the seat.(Definitely did not sit there!) Fixtures were quite old. Don't drop the soap in the shower as there isn't enough room to pick it up! Maybe some of the other rooms were nicer but I definitely was not impressed with this one. Stayed at two other guest houses in Ireland for same prices and the rooms were MUCH nicer.

Room Tip: Don't stay in Room 1 !

Dear Cyntha,

Many thanks for your recent comments and glad you enjoyed your breakfast which we cook to order as well as our homemade sode bread cooked by myself each morning!

However it is unfortunate you did not like your room as we have spent considerable money this year on refurbishing all our rooms, this ground floor room which is very popular for many of our guests as no stairs is involved and is one of our more requested rooms.

We do hope that you will stay with us on your next vist to Wexford and if you contact us directly on 00353539122249.

Unfortunately we were only able to spend one night at this B & B as we were taking the early morning ferry back to Wales. On arrival, we were provided with ample information about the facilities and the local area. The rooms were very well equipped and there was plenty of car parking space. After exploring the area, we enjoyed sitting in the airy downstairs sitting room in the evening. Breakfast was excellent, particularly the fresh soda bread, which had been baked that morning by Damian, the owner. Travelling to the ferry was quick and straight forward as Faythe Guesthouse is conveniently situated on the west side of the town.

Room Tip: There is a downstairs room available for people with mobility problems.

How have we spent twenty plus years visiting the Wexford Opera Festival and not discovered this B&B? The proximity to the towns pubs and eateries, the large car park and the sea views from our room might seem enough to recomend it but the real bonuses are the breakfast (try the plaice!), the afternoon tea and cake (complimentary) in the comfortable sitting room, and. the friendly and helpful host Damian. Our room was spotless and the bathroom well equiped with constant hot water. Best B&B in Wexford and I would be pushed to think of ever having stayed in a better.

We can highly recommend the Faythen Guest House Wexford. On September 20th September we stayed there for 5 nights and it was just perfect in every way! Great location only 5 minutes from pubs, bars, restaurants and shops. The breakfast is absolutely superb. Good range of cereals, dried and fresh fruits, yogurts etc. Then an amazing choice of hot breakfasts cooked personally to order with freshly sourced ingredients and superbly presented. What made it absolutely perfect for me was the amazing choice of freshly cooked fish dishes - kedgeree, fried plaice and kippers without extra charge - foodies heaven! Staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. We will certainly be coming back again especially as during our visit I discovered that my Great Grandma came from Wexford - not that we needed any excuse to return! Oh I nearly forgot the soda bread - freshly made every morning an absolute delight.
