We visited Westport House last week with a young family. We were staying in Hotel Westport whose owners have recently purchased Westport House so we were able to purchase a family ticket at 25% discount. The ticket covered two day entry. You can walk from the hotel down towards the house. We a young family we skipped visiting the actual house but it looks beautiful. Instead we enjoyed the activities in the grounds. The Swan Pedaloes look cool and its very peaceful out on the lake. The boys loved being able to pedal and steer the boats. The small train ride which runs along side the lake was enjoyed too. Then onto to Pirates haven which had a water log ride , a huge pirate ship swing ride, bouncy castle, pinic area, small sweet and coffee hut and a hot food van. Plus theres a sand pit. There are height restrictions of 1.2m for the water ride and 1.1 m for the swing ride. Our boys loved the water ride. It was not too busy so theu got stay on 18 times ina row. Thoroughly soaked but happy out. The chips and burgers and chicken nuggets from the hot food van were delicious. Get the curry sauce, it was very tasty. Back up towards the house there is the cannonball slide - to be enjoyed by adults and kids and then the go karts ( kids only). There are other activites available such as zip wire and archery but these are extra and age and weight restrictions apply. More detail about these is needed in the leaflet so you don't end up with disappointed kids who are not old enough or heavy enough to go on the zip. Overall a lovely active two days was spent in Westport house grounds. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Perfect for kids age 4 to 10. Hopefully one day we will get back to see the inside of Westport a house.

I visited Westport house with my Wife and three kids in the lashings of rain and I have to say we had an an amazing time. One thing you need to know about Ireland is....
If you let the Weather stop you. You will never enjoy this Country.

Lots to see and do in the grounds from archery to zip lining. There’s something to suit all age groups. On site gift shop and there’s a coffee shop also. The house is beautiful and is open to the public. Also nice for a stroll.

We were in Hotel Westport, and discovered that the back gate into the Westport House Estate is now open from 8 am to 4 pm at present. We took advantage of the great walks through the estate, past the Big House to Westport Quay. As it was February, the opening hours for the House are restricted, so we didn't get a chance to see it.
