Attended a recent funation in Hotel Kilkenny and it was amazing. Room was beautiful. Very clean and spacious. Room where our function was held was perfect for amount of people attending. Food was exceptional. I had salmon and veg as I a am a fish lover. Best I ever had. Breakfast following morning was lovely. Overall the only fault I could find was the service on the Saturday night. While all the staff were very friendly I thought there wasn't any organisation. They seemed to pulled all over the place by their supervisor. It would be much better if they had certain tables to serve and there wouldn't be so much pressure on them. Also requested by numerous people for air conditioning to be switched off as everyone had to put on their coats at our table but it too forever to get this done.

Room tip: Request room with city view if available

5 of us shared 3 rooms in this wonderful hotel in March - we were all VERY impressed. The rooms were a terrific size with lots of charm and character. The hotel itself was only a 15 miunute walk to the local town centre adn teh magnificent castle. On our way we walked past the amazing Christian College with the most beautifully manicired green lawns we had ever seen. The town has hisotry, lots of shops and very friendly people - there was nothing to fault about this hotel or the town. Well done!

Myself and my boyfriend enjoyed a 2 day break here. The hotel is excellent and staff are so friendly and very helpful. Our room was lovely and modern and very clean. Would definitely recommend this hotel. It's not far from the town itself and taxi is roughly €7 each way which we found to be very reasonable :)

If you want a hotel with decent food, deluxe rooms and silence at night time then AVOID this hotel! You can hear EVERYTHING and I mean everything! Don’t expect much sleep if you stay here. Both nights myself and my boyfriend were woken up at stupid o clock by drunken eejits, babies crying and doors slamming shut! You can hear conversations, TVs and toilets too easily. Called reception to complain about noise from a room who spent the guts of an hour running up and down the hall and slamming the doors but not much was done on the first night so gave up on the second night.
Breakfast is meh. You are seated and handed a menu with the belief that your food will be cooked to order but it comes out pre cooked and reheated and not great for a 4 star hotel.
Rooms are very basic. We booked a double and it was just 2 single beds pushed together with a noticeable divide in the middle. Bathrooms are dingy and dated for a 4 star. Have used nicer bathrooms in a hostel. Our room was at least 100 degrees, we had to leave the window open whenever we were in the room as there was no option to control room temp! Also every time the heat came on or off the pipes in the room made an absolute racket!
My partner used the gym and said it was cramped. If one person was on a machine, the one beside it couldn’t be used at the same time.
The only saving grace were the staff who were polite and helpful.
Wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone... there’s definitely nicer in the city and don’t be fooled by the 4 star rating. It’s 3 at best!

We stayed in this establishment yesterday and I actually created a TripAdvisor account first time just to be able to leave this review.

It was our first night away as a couple in 8 years since we had 3 kids during this period and couldn't leave them behind with anyone. So we were really looking forward to this as you can imagine.

Well what a night we picked to visit... When we arrived to the hotel grounds we had to wait in the car park 20 minutes before we could get parking slot. I actually ring the reception on the way down to make sure there is car parking facilities avaliable and the receptionist lady quoted "we have a huge car park in front of the hotel for our customers" well she wasn't wrong they do have a big car park but she failed to mention there is also a huge wedding taking place in the hotel and there might not be many avaliable parking spots...

Finally we have managed to park our car and enter the reception through a massive cloud of smoke generated by wedding guests smoking right outside the front door of the hotel. Reception area was completely over run by wedding quests. It was another 10 minutes before we could get to speak to a receptionist. To be fair they were flat out busy and seem to be handling it pretty well other than the miss information we were given.

We were checked in big hurry, almost as if we were not meant to be there and should get out of the way of the wedding guests. We asked for some simple information about the leisure centre opening hours and food options within the hotel. We were told both bar and restaurant serves until 9:30 pm and we can walk in to either of the places since there are not many leisure guests and there would be plenty of room. We were also told we could get a 2 course meal for 25 and 3 course meal for 30 euros in the restaurant.

Following this lengthy and uncomfortable process we finally made it to our room which was located in the ground floor. Room was nice and clean. Little bit on the dated side but it had everything in good order. We used the leisure centre for couple of hours after dropping our luggages to the room and I can not describe a single fault about the leisure centre. It was top notch.

Following this we went back to our room and haven't seen a sinner anywhere, it was rather peaceful and we were able to see the nice and classy design of the reception area for the first time.

We have arrived at the restaurant little before 9 pm and we were told we don't have a reservation and they can't fit us in, we explained that we were told that we could walk in by the reception and between rolling her eyes and shaking her head waitress said: she needs to ask the chef if they can accomodate us. After a minute she came back and told us to follow her in a very displeased manner. When we actually enter the restaurant there was only 3 other tables with total of 6 people sitting on them. We were given the menus and waitress was litteraly waiting there for us to order. We asked if there is a set menu for the 2 and 3 course deals were mentioned to us by the reception and waitress replied with she has to ask the chef again...

After couple of minutes another guy came up and told us those offers were only for package customers and we were not package customers. After explaining again this was the info given to us by the reception again he told us he would honor the offers. We had a fantastic 3 course meal and lovely wine recommended by the same guy. (I think his name was Ross?) He was very proffesional and spot on with his recommendations!

Following the meal we made our way to the bar and had couple of drinks. Bar was nice with a one man band playing in the corner. Staff were tentative and very friendly.

We have retired to our room around 11pm and we couldn't hear or see anything regarding to the wedding taking place in the same hotel it was nice and quiet until 6:30 am... We were waking up to what sounded like a stampede right outside our door, this was followed by screams and shouts coming from kids playing in the hall. We tried to go back to sleep but disturbance repeated numerous times with 10 minute intervals. Tried to ring the reception twice and there was no answer. Finally around 7:30 after and hour of listening to kids shouting we reached a receptionist and issue was solved soon after. Needles to say we couldn't go back to sleep after that. I don't know how they didn't hear this from the reception area because our room was located less than 30 meters from the front desk and only 1 glass door seperates the reception area from the hall were our room was.

I know this has been a very lengthy review but our experience was full of ups and downs, I couldn't have justified the average rating I give without explaining the whole picture.

I feel like this could have been a great experience for us which turned in to a bit of a nightmare. Place has every potential to be a great venue in EVERY OCCASION if all the staff were in same level of enthusiasm and professionalism as the guy in the restaurant.

Unfortunately for us; an opportunity to have a relaxing time as a couple we get as seldom as once in every 8 years was wasted.
