It’s been many years since I was last in La Cave and we decided on here for a meal before going to a show in the Gaiety.

We arrived at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon & there were a few people enjoying wine at the bar. All the tables were free & although we had no reservation, we were shown to a table that was needed back by 6:45, leaving us plenty of time to relax & enjoy our meal.

There were 3 menus on offer - early bird, table d’hôte & a la cart, all offering excellent choices. We opted for the table d’hôte menu, starting with a baked goats cheese with walnuts & apple which was mouthwatering!! I had the Ravioli with spinach & mushrooms for mains which was cooked to perfection. My husband had the braised lamb shank which tasted great but unfortunately was stone cold at the centre. We brought this to the attention of our server & it was changed for a fresh one. My husband finished off with the pear & apple tart tartin. They offer several types of wine by the glass & I chose the Malbec.

The staff were friendly and lovely candlelight, soft lighting & French music playing softly led to a beautiful atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit!

If the walls in this place could talk they would tell a tale of great wines, Suzette music, cuisine reminiscent of a Lyonnaise bouchon, candlelight and much happiness. Coming here for the last 15 years.....thank you Gerard and Sue

Great to know the standard of service and food is consistently high as always at La Cave. Full marks for service and full marks for quality of meal. Our last visited La Cave was 10 years ago so we hoped La Cave would not disappoint. We had very found memories of a lovely family meal here. La Cave met our expectations fully and we were pleased to find somewhere still retaining their standards and atmosphere in a very competitive environment. Our dining experience this time was early Sunday evening and while we had not purposefully planned to we enjoyed an excellent Early Bird meal.

Six if us went to la Cave to celebrate a friends birthday as this was one of her favourite restaurants for the last 20 years. She had requested a particular table when she booked 2 weeks ago and they cinfirmed that that table would be reservered for her. On arriving at the restaurant last night we were given an entirely different table which barely sat 4 people even though the booking was for six. On complaining the waiter was very rude and said there was no other table available. We then decided to walk with or feet and left La Cabe. The rubgy was on that weekend so obviously they were trying to quash as many as possible into the restaurant at the expense of their regular customers who have supported them right through the years includinf the recession. Well they just lost 6 regular customers and their friends and families. Thankfully our local restaurant The Bistro in Rathgar was able to facilitate us that night.

I found this restaurant listed when I searched for top early birds in Dublin. I had passed this place so many times and always wondered what it would be like but thought it might be very expensive. I googled the price and it was €18.50 early bird for 2 courses. The restaurant was gorgeous really cosy lovely decor - quite small and tight at the tables but really really nice. Staff were fantastic, excellent service, fab food, lovely wine reasonably priced. Gorgeous desert for an additional €3 would definitely go again. Hidden gem.
