“It's a Second Rate Hostel - Not a Fabulous Coach House”

There were 7 of us - family members traveling around Ireland. We decided to splurge on this place so we could end our 2 weeks in comfort and semi-luxury. See the picture? That is the kitchen with rotted fruit in that bowl and a big bowl of stale scones with fruit flies all over them. That's also the dining room with 5 beat up chairs and a long wooden bench on the other side - if the table is pulled out, you can't pass through the room. The living room/group space is those 2 chairs against the wall. We never saw Kevin, our host, although he was said by a property manager to be too busy to answer our questions because he was running his coffee shop on the main floor of the building. Our kitchen lacked a coffee pot and the surfaces were greasy and dirty. There were no instructions on how to operate the stove. Our "coach house" had bedrooms in 2 unconnected structures on 2 floors - to get to the kitchen in the morning you had to walk outside past the garbage cans and get there by way of slippery metal stairs with rails that were separated from the building wall in several places. The bedrooms were cramped and each bed had a dirty bottom sheet and a comforter. There was no room to open or store luggage. For the older folks who had trouble negotiating the 2-3 long flights of stairs at the front door, we entered through the back alley door - after moving the drunk homeless guy spread across the doorway each night. No bath mats. Threadbare bath towels. No towel bars. Dishwasher full, Old food in the filthy refrigerator. Hair clogging 2 of the shower drains causing them to flood. Communal lighted table space right outside our kitchen/dining/common room where young guests from other rental spaces partied the first night. No locks on the interior building doors and the kitchen door knob fell off in my hand. Bottom line: If you are a group of students looking to party all night and have a grungy dirty place to crash, this place is for you. If you are looking for a nice, clean, spacious "coach house", well, this definitely is not the place for you. Oh, it IS centrally located.

The location of the loft apartment was ideal, being so close to O'Connell street and central meant that we could walk almost everywhere we planned. The accommodation was very comfortable for our large group and well equipped. The large kitchen/diner/lounge was a brilliant communal area for us hens and had interesting decor! Kevin made us very welcome and the coffee shop next door was really handy. We had a fabulous time and would love to stay again in the future.
