The classic rock bar experience. Grungy and dark with excellent music. Don't let the look of it fool you everyone was super friendly

This is a fun bar with lots of locals and great live music. Not too hard to have a good time here especially when they have tinge bands playing upstairs.

Bar part ok for a pint and a bit of metal/rock music in the background thing.
As a concert venue...hilarious: really bad sound.
Remember when back in the day was going outside for a ciggy to hear playing bands better lol
Now smoking area is inside, and it makes the whole place even smaller. Not sure what it is about Cork, but seems everything is made for people who love squishy places not much bigger than their own livingrooms.
Still would visit tho. Freds is one of the last bastions of metal in Cork, and Dave Mustaine was here, so shush it.

Wanted to check this bar out last Friday evening but got refused by the security staff on the door.
This is amusing since I am 27 years old and was trying to enter before 10pm!
I was with two other friends who they also seemed to have a problem with. They were 24 and 25 years old respectively. The bouncer in question thought that my friends ID looked "dodgy" and that we couldn't go in. I haven't been carded in about 5 years but showed them my ID and they did not like the look of my age card either!!
I hope this is not instructions given by the pub itself because in the end I felt discriminated against. I don't know did we not fit the "type" of people they want in here or was it just a case of this bouncer using what little power he has in life to make himself feel better for his career choice!! Either way, we went around the corner to Electric without being asked for ID and had a nice evening in the end. With or without bouncers, i will not be checking this place out in future because of the idiotic behaviour experienced that evening. Just wanted to make people aware that this place has serious attitude and other bars in Cork are a lot friendlier to go have a few drinks on a Friday evening after work.

Thank Paulieol

If you like metal and rock you should definitely have a pint of Beamish here. Very nice music venue as well.
