In Ireland for vacation and out driving countryside. I found the abbey online and knew we had to visit. It was eerily quiet but beautiful. We loved walking the grounds and reading the history oud the place. It really was one of the most extraordinary places i have seen. I highly recommend....AND there is a local chocolate maker close by to visit as well.

could be more done with the place to make and even better venue maybe more of those weather proof story boards explaining more of the history or general stories about the area.

If you can visit this Abbey and get a historical explanation of its significance then I highly recommend visiting it. It is very secluded away from the surrounding area. Do not miss the significance of the people who are buried here. This is one of the last few Irish historical pieces that were not stolen or destroyed by previous imperialist endeavors.

It might be more appropriate to say that the Hazel Mountain Chocolate Shop was built not far from the Abbey, but either way the two are well worth the stop in experiencing The Burren. The Abbey is neat to explore, with plenty of parking, and the highlight for us was seeing the limestone effigy near the alter which is one of the few contemporary representations of an Irish chieftain. Get a snack at the chocolate cafe and then see the Abbey!

Great, well worth the time to see Irish history. You have to let your Ming wander and imagine you are 700 years in the past.
