The noise comes from everywhere! The pathetic little men with large exhausts drive around all night outside and the foreign gangs of men party into the early hours with their windows open. At weekends drunken women screech along the corridor before slamming their doors after their parties. From about 6am the door slamming starts again as people get up. The gym equipment is just about held together by parcel tape! On the plus side, breakfast is ok, the staff are friendly and it is centrally located - but in a town that has had most of it's life sucked out of it.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your stay with us this month. I am sorry that your nights were not as relaxing as they should have been, please accept our apologies.

As soon as we were made aware of the incident with the men partying and making noise from their windows we contacted their company who dealt with the individuals internally. I hope that this was the last of the matter and they were not heard again.

With regards to the weekends, I can understand your frustrations with guests returning to their rooms having enjoyed our Christmas Parties through December. Whilst every effort is made by our Nights Team to ensure noise is kept to a minimum, some guests can be a little loud when getting back to their rooms.

I am pleased that you have mentioned the team positively in your review and will be sure to pass on your comments to them. Should you be returning in the New Year for work we will look forward to welcoming you back and hope to provide a more relaxing experience.

Kind Regards

Lindsay Steele

Stayed here for the weekend after booking through a deal and it was definitely good value for money. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and made an effort to speak with you. Dinner was good (maybe could have slightly more choice) as was breakfast. Pool and leisure facilities could maybe do with a bit of freshening up but it's still ok. Hotel is in an ideal location and plenty of car parking

Stayed overnight 04/12/16. First impression on arrival very good, pleasant reception staff and appearance of foyer nice. Minor issues in bathroom - shower rail very rusty along with pedal bin, also marks on back of door. Room was clean with no issues apart from marked carpet. Fire alarm off 5am but no direction from staff when we arrived downstairs, everyone sitting/standing in foyer when escape plan clearly advises to use the car park. This was before the arrival on fire brigade. Would hate to think what if it had been an actual fire!! No communication from staff when alarm stopped, a simple thanks for cooperating you can return to your rooms would have been nice. Back in room and then hoovering started downstairs 6am so much for sleep. Good choice at breakfast but some hot items were only look warm, have seen this on other reviews too. Also no mention when checking out regarding the alarm - scared of negativity? I had spoken to other guest who felt the same. I know things happen but coming from a customer service background there are possibly better ways to deal with it and ensure that guests return again. Would definitely think twice.

Room tip: Partial sight of sea if at front. But new windows would eliminate outside traffic noise.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your feedback following your stay with us although I was disappointed that this was not as relaxing as it should have been. Please accept my sincere apologies.

The safety and wellbeing of all our guests is our highest priority. To this end we ensure that we have in place appropriate life safety systems and processes in all our hotels. Whenever our fire alarm system activates, in the interests of your safety and wellbeing we always ask that our guests evacuate the building, proceed to the fire assembly point and remain there until assurance is give by the fire service that it is safe to return to the building.

Unfortunately, and especially throughout the night, guests assume that the alarm is just a false alarm and will congregate in the reception area in the warmth. I am confident that the team on duty that evening will have been doing everything they could to try and get guests to the evacuation point in the car park whilst also ensuring that their other responsibilities in this situation were being carried out.

I do hope that we may get the opportunity to welcome you back to provide a genuine, hassle-free experience.

Kind Regards

Lindsay Steele

I did enjoy my stay in this hotel and I would recommend it. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. I was staying there for my Son’s wedding which was being held out Daldruff Farm a little way out of town. All of the staff were happy to share their positive experiences of the venue. It was a really nice atmosphere.
Our cleaner was particularly nice. She Oooe’d! & Aaa’d! at my wife’s stunning “mother of the groom,” outfit as we walked down to reception. The next day she asked after how the wedding went and I showed her the hundreds of pictures I had taken.

The location is perfect as well. A short walk from the amazing beach from where we could see the snow covered mountains on the Island of Aran in the distance and right on the doorstep of the theatre, the shopping centre and the station. It’s like somebody has said “hey! Where is the best place to put a hotel in Ayr? …… OK we’ll put it there.”

Having said all of those positive things I also need to say one or two less than positive in order to manage expectations. The hotel is very clean and looked after but it’s starting to show signs of age. There is a seating area opposite reception with a wooden balustrade around it. The posts that support the rail are have wooden balls on top of them, well they are supposed to. Most of them are missing and those that remain are loose. The door locks are temperamental. My key card wouldn’t work one minute but would be fine the next. The doors in the gym were a bit discoloured with damp and the sauna didn’t work properly. Mind you the steam room is fantastic. Nothing hugely wrong but lots of little things that are just a bit tired.
It didn’t spoil my visit because the clearly spend a lot of time cleaning and like I said, the staff are great but it could do with a bit of a refurbishment.

Restaurant was OK but I did feel it was a bit pricey. Breakfast is £11 per head and it’s not that special. We ate in the first night but the second night we ate at Smiths next door.

Thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay. If I am ever in Ayr again this would be my first choice hotel.

Room tip: Front facing rooms have a view of Kyle of Lochalsh rear facing have a view of the Kyle shopping centre… I would ask for a room at the front
