I must say, this is one of the best holiday lets we have ever stayed in!
This was our first trip to the highlands (group of 7!) and we are looking at booking it up again for later this year!
It’s sometimes difficult to accommodate the needs of 7 all in one place but Jackie and Jon were on hand from the beginning to help with our requests and they made this trip extra special (it was my birthday) The size and quality of their home was perfect-easily enough space and facilities for everyone to be together for great family meals yet plenty of room to go off and have quiet time. The kitchen was well equipped and we do enjoy cooking so we generally need every gadget, pot and pan in reach and there were more than enough to accommodate!!
The location here is fantastic-set right within a beautiful area in itself (stunning walks) yet within 20 mins drive of Inverness and all it has to offer for a bit more activity...we loved it! Also Cairngorm is easily reachable which is a great plus! Thankyou Jackie and Jon-perfect break in a beautiful place-Scottish Highlands: we will be back to stay soon!!

We stayed here a couple of years ago and once again the place was just ideal. Booked with the same friends direct with the owners - Super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The place is only 20 mins to Aviemore and is an ideal base for exploring the Highlands or just chilling out with friends - we will be back! X
We have just returned from a lovely week with my family of 8 in this gorgeous highland home. Jon and Jackie took all the stress away from the ease of the initial booking to advice on various day trip ideas and I cannot thank them enough, they couldn`t of been more helpful. The house is in a perfect location with beautiful surroundings. We through rally enjoyed walks and taking in the breath taking countryside, a perfect escape for all the family. The house itself was perfect, it is very spacious and has plenty of bathrooms/bedding/towels. The kitchen had everything we needed to have a lovely home cooked meal which we brought with yummy local produce followed by wine and board games for some great family time.
All in all 5* and probably the best customer service I have ever experienced through booking a trip/holiday. I would highly recommend this luxury highland home to anyone. Thank you Jon, this is one holiday we wont forget we will definitely be back.
This is a large house built to a good standard in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. We stayed here in February half term 2018 and just returned from a lovely holiday but with the recommendation to exercise caution. Given the fact that we paid a premium to stay in a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom property (£1500 to be exact) and the unprofessional manner in which it is run, we wonder if the owner actually understands his market. We have had one of the worst lettings experience ever and would not return to this house nor would we trust holiday lettings again.
The house is 20 min from Inverness and about 40 min from the skiing in Cairngorm that brought us here so accessible to everywhere you would want to go. Outside is a very spacious garden with only one slide and swing. One wonders if this is aimed at families at all but in -4 temperatures and 6 inch snow this wasn’t an issue for us but in summer it could be for somebody else. Be sure to check location on google maps as it is very close to the A9 so outside in the yard it is not exactly a rural retreat as reviewed by some and you can hear lorries go by and behind is a public road just to intrude on your little family gathering experience, really nice when you are looking for private time in the hot tub (if it works) with the wife.
After receiving our booking request for this property advertised as “4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms sleeps 8” for our family of 5, prior to arrival the owner decided to lock one of the ensuite bedrooms reducing our space to 3 bedrooms and 3 showers (only 1 shower in master ensuite worked adequately) Is this standard practice or was this 5 star treatment reserved for us and why isn’t this practice mentioned in the booking contract? It is obvious we wouldn’t be sharing any rooms hence paying a premium for 4 bedrooms. We are seeking legal advice if this contravenes our rights under the consumer rights act. Please double check everything before booking and avoid vague communication which he selectively cuts and pastes later.
Anyway we arrived after a 7 hour drive at around 7pm exhausted. Tesco extra is a 20 min drive each way so very convenient. We weren’t taking much notice but kids wanted sky, no pin in the booklet nor anything that might help to orientate yourself, hot tub was frozen and obviously broken prior. Again no warning or communication when he obviously knew it was broken and had ordered parts that got fitted the following Monday.
Inside the house is lovely with a large lounge and kitchen with breakfast bar nicely equipped with German quality appliances though don’t think you can have a family meal with the pots and pans on offer. Some need to be freed from their bondage. The first thing anybody would do is open the visitors book to be greeted by a list of do’s and dont's and a very overpriced inventory in case of damage so this would should make you wary about the message being sent out. Immediately we noticed some prior damage to walls, pointed this out took photos, very useful for when he tries to retain the deposit later and good for arbitration.
There were just enough towels, one each, just enough plates, one each, and just enough duvets, 1 each even though the listing clearly states sleeps 8. The first couple of nights we were freezing as it was -4 outside and the heating was on timer and 1 duvet was not enough (isn’t this obvious?), but with his permission we put the heating on continuous though request for extra bedding was refused until much later. Upstairs, there is 1 double bedroom and 1 twin next to the double master bedroom with ensuite. We specifically requested by text for the twin to be kept with a cot for our youngest as he doesn’t share. The last double ensuite is downstairs which he locks (or locked as a one off, who knows) so 3 bedrooms altogether not 4 as described!. There is a communal shower upstairs but it’s either very hot or freezing and downstairs is a useless electric shower, little better than a trickle. As the owner locks the last ensuite bedroom therefore also reducing the 4 bathrooms to 3, this forces everybody to use the walk-in shower in the master bedroom ensuite. Just think about this for a second! 5 people reduced to using one shower in the master ensuite! Moreover, this shower is designed poorly as a walk in, it’s too small measuring only about 900 or 1000mm2 with just one glass panel and no door. The water sprays everywhere which is a real hazard to have wet tiled floors with kids around and they slipped more than once. The bathtub shower hose is not connected for those bath rinses so the luxurious bath is out of the question. So effectively the only viable shower option is the tiny walk-in. There are no locks on any door this includes slide locks on bathrooms so expect children barging in to use the only bathroom. Is it too much to put a simple slide lock on? This was pointed out to holiday lettings within 24 hours who did nothing and escalated due to lack of local management. How many texts can I send in an area with no reception and very little internet coverage while managing kids on what is supposed to be a relaxing holiday. Forget fibre optic, even dial up internet is faster than this. If a wifi upgrade is out of the question can I suggest an Ethernet cable in the back of the sky box (for days spent inside) and wifi boosters around the house. We’ve already established thanks to google maps that it isn’t a rural retreat (but just to be clear we weren’t looking for such and location was perfect)
We broached the subject of the 4th bedroom on Monday night and he very kindly informed us location of key (Tuesday) and we unlocked the last bedroom and had our extra bathroom. The hot tub was finally was fixed by the company after I was instructed to find the hose myself, thaw it out and fill the tub and start it. Took half a day and we did receive a not so generous offer of compensation but as it was also accompanied by another offer to leave immediately and be charged for the days there we felt a little insulted. Obviously by midweek most of our issues were rectified and also verified by the very helpful cleaner Agnes who kindly brought us 1 extra frying pan and provided extra bedding, but why cause all this annoyance and miscommunication in the first place?
We understand from the owner he has lived in France for the last 4 years which casts doubt over some of the previous reviews about his presence or his helpfulness to other residents. We found him to be the opposite and given that the property is up for sale (a large sign outside!) can understand the general lack of interest. It is marketed as “Luxury” and “Excellent”, much misused adjectives when lack of local management makes minor matters quickly escalate. 20 reviews in about 4 years only confirm our poor experience and some of our comments should resonate with other reviews and some will clearly contradict others who may not have actually stayed here for any length of time. All we can suggest is that you don’t expect this to be luxury or excellent in anyway and try to block out the negatives as we did and have a good time regardless. Predictably the owner will reply that he’s never had these complaints before and he corrected them as soon as he knew but honestly, given the nature of these complaints, he would be aware of all these issues at the property prior to our arrival and just failed to communicate or manage adequately.
