“Nice friendly hotel”
Reviewed 11 May 2012

This is a nice place to stay. Very friendly receptionist. Room was big and clean. Comfortable bed.
The food was very nice as well. The staff really were nice and friendly. Nice local artwork around the place as well. I would not hesitate to stay there again... And I am fussy!

I've stayed here before on several occasions and much prefer a room at the back of the hotel. Although the bedrooms are smaller and they have a power shower instead of a bath, they are much quieter. I was in the main hotel this time and as I thought had a poor night's sleep due to the creaks of floor boards all around (why do people move about in the middle of the night though?). The bed was comfy enough although there was not much room to layout my luggage. There was no curtain inside the bathroom window which looks right out onto the front of the hotel so I was a bit wary when showering as I like to have the window open to let fresh air in. I ate in the bar and chose monkfish from the specials menu. It was quite pricey but tasted ok. Breakfast is in the main restaurant and is a mixture of buffet and cooked items from the kitchen which I enjoyed. There is plenty of parking at the hotel which is on the main road into Thurso from Inverness so quite adequate for a one night stay.

Room Tip: Avoid a room at the top of the stairs as you hear everyone passing your door!

I stayed twice on business within a couple of weeks and got to try the outside rooms on one trip and inside on the other. The room within the hotel was nicer and brighter, though an ill fitting window might have made it cold in poorer weather. It was big enough to get paperwork done, clean and comfortable. Out back the room was smaller and a little cramped to lay out papers. It had no tub but an excellent shower.

Food overall was good with enough choice of dinners for a non meat eater over several nights and a fair choice for breakfast. Location is convenient for Tescos across the road but a bit of a walk from town or the sea front. Service was always efficient and friendly.

It won't blow you away as a holiday destination, but if you are in Thurso for work it is an eminently suitable choice.

Room Tip: The rooms out back are smaller and dimmer but have better water pressure and wireless internet signa...

Stayed at the Park Hotel in January for quite a sad family occasion. It had a very homely feel and was spotlessly clean, and the service was excellent. Sandra organised everything very efficiently and all the staff over the weekend were friendly, helpful and sensitive to the circumstances. Colin the night porter was very friendly and good fun. The quality of the food was excellent, 11 of us ate there for 3 days and nobody had a bad meal. Those who had the ribeye steak said it was some of the best they'd ever had. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone going up to that part of the world.
The only downside was the trickle of water that came out of the shower.

Our party of eleven stayed 3 nights over a long weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay finding the following:
The room was very clean and well appointed. Shower deluge was a bit poor but usable. There was also a bath. Bathroom a bit cold despite heated towel rail but possibly something to do with gale force northerly winds and freezing conditions! Room faced onto road but double glazing provided good sound insulation. Huge double bed was 2 x 3' beds joined together. Reasonably comfortable but would have benefitted from a mattress topper, especially over the joining bump.TV smallish but easily watchable with full range of freeview channels.
Restaurant/bar food was very good and not excessively priced althought food delivery was a tad slow at busy times. The restaurant appeared to be very popular on the Saturday night. The hotel also provided a function buffet for 30 people which was excellent. The breakfasts were also excellent. There are well stocked lounge and public bars but no cask beer available.
The staff were unfailingly pleasant and polite, providing excellent service.
There is plentiful car parking and a small Tesco opposite.
