“Location has its positives and negatives”
Reviewed 13 June 2018 for a stay in June 2018

This apartment is located quite centrally, just 5 min. or so walk from Queen Street station and a bit more from Glasgow Central. There is shopping in abundance, including Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer in Argyle St. and Tesco in the St. Enoch Mall. It is more or less equidistant from St. Enoch and Buchanan tube stops, St. Enoch being perhaps a bit closer. Bus service is also nearby, including the #500 Airport Express just 4-5 min. walk away in St. George Square. However, the central location also has its downside, as the neighborhood is quite noisy. Even late at night, there is noise from delivery trucks, rubbish pickup, and revelers returning from pubs. The noise becomes more noticeable in warm weather, because the only means of ventilation is to open the windows (there is a heating system but no air-conditioning). Also, the afternoon sun comes in the windows; on sunny and warm days the apartment becomes unbearably hot and bright. We kept the shades pulled even during the day just to keep the heat down. Fortunately, the landlord provides two electric fans, which helped. The apartment has modern furnishings, but is rather cluttered; extra bedding and other items are squirreled away here and there. A small table and folding chairs in the bedroom get in the way of the chest of drawers — quite unnecessary since the dining table is just a few steps away. The kitchen has very nice modern appliances and many grocery items such as coffee, tea, oil, spices, etc. are supplied — but again, so much crockery and cutlery are supplied that it is quite cluttered. The double bed was not very firm, nor were the pillows, and the linen smelled a bit musty to me. Positives: convenient location; the landlord is very accommodating and good at communicating, and returned the damage deposit promptly. Negatives: clutter, stuffiness on warm days, noise (and cigarette smoke) from the street below. Also there is a flight of stairs to negotiate without a lift; not much but for someone with mobility problems or heavy luggage it could be daunting. The apartment is certainly adequate and secure accommodation, but because of the noise and heat I would be reluctant to return.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry you feel you would be reluctant to return.
If I may deal with the points you raise -
1- Noise. As you say the location is very central in a fantastic position for local transport, theaters, shops and restaurants. With this location there is of course a compromise and some street noise is inevitable especially if you had to open the windows. We do supply earplugs if anyone wishes to use them. In most circumstances our visitors seem to be able to accept the compromise as we receive very few reviews complaining about noise.
2-Heating - we do indeed have a central heating system so the apartment can be used all year round. Glasgow is not renowned for high temperatures so its not the sort of location you would expect to find air conditioning - but as you say we do provide a few fans should they be needed. The large sash windows can also be opened to let some air in and as you also mention the blinds are good at blocking the sun.
I think you were very fortunate to experience a sunny warm Glasgow - it must have made you trips out during the day that bit more enjoyable. Its always raining when I'm there!
3-Clutter - We cater for 4 persons and indeed for flexibility by offering the sofa bed. This of course means more bedding is required but there is still plenty storage space in the wardrobe, the large set of drawers and the bedside drawers. The table in the bedroom can also be collapsed like the chairs if a visitor finds them in the way.
4-Kitchen - we provide extra crockery and cutlery to provide for breakages, lost items and indeed extra persons such as family in the area invited for a meal by our visitors. They are all adequately stored away in the cupboards.
5-Bed - No one has ever mentioned the bed being uncomfortable - so I am sorry if you found it so. There are extra pillows "squirelled about" so visitors do have an option of changing pillows if they are too soft or hard.
6-Stairs - there is one flight of wide stairway to negotiate. we agree not suitable for people with mobility problems and we would point this out if there were any misgivings upon booking. We try to keep the listing as honest and accurate as possible. A lift cannot be provided due the building being of a historic nature.

Thanks again for your comments and if you ever reconsidered your thoughts about a repeat visit we would be pleased to accommodate you.

Regards

Ronnie

Great location. Roomy apartment. Only wee negative is that the bedroom cupboard was filled with extra bedding etc, making it difficult to use.

Glad you overall enjoyed the accommodation. The bedroom cupboard seemed to have clothes that had been left by previous guests and have now been cleared so there is more room now in that wardrobe. There is also a large chest of drawers and 2 bedside cabinets for storage.
thanks and hope to see you again

“Perfectly located extremely comfortable flat”
Reviewed 9 November 2017 for a stay in November 2017

We enjoyed our stay very much. The layout of the flat is good for two couples to share. Although in the middle of Merchant City, the street is quiet at night.

“Yes, go there!!”
Reviewed 18 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

The flat is ideally located, well within walking distance of George Square, the main commercial avenues of Merchant City, the Clyde and even the Glasgow Greens. It is well designed and equipped with care (the owners even left a laptop for the guests). The street can be a little noisy, but if you're looking for quiet, Glasgow is probably not the place for you. And the bed is so comfortable that you're guaranteed to sleep really well. Would absolutely recommend.

The apartament has a great location, near George square and the city centre. Around, you can find every kind of shops and resturant. The owner is very kind, he provides us everything we need. The apartament was clean and well decorated. Despite the central position, and the restaurants under the flat, there wasn't noise. We really enjoyed our accommodation!

Thank you Lucia. We believe we have a lovely flat in a very central location without there being too much noise. Glasgow is the perfect city stop and we love visiting the city ourselves when we can. We hope to see you again
