We had visited here a couple of months ago on a Saturday night and had a lovely relaxed meal, served by friendly staff so decided to return. Unfortunately the experience was polar opposite.
Whereas last time we were seated downstairs in a comfy cubicle, this time we were seated upstairs at a small table against a wall just outside the kitchens so staff were constantly running back and forth and we could witness food and cutlery being brought in from a room outside and also chefs going outside for what appeared to be a cigarette break. Not really what you want to see whilst waiting on your food. A member of staff then decided to jam open the outside door with no consideration or thought to customers sitting just at the door. I eventually had to ask for it to be shut as the cold wind on my back and neck was getting unbearable.
The food itself was average. We had the shared platter for starter. £8.95 for 2 mushrooms, 2 onion rings, 2 pieces of breaded chicken, 2 haggis balls and ONE small piece if garlic bread. I'm unclear whether we were supposed to fight over the garlic bread or have a bite each! Very overpriced and would certainly not recommend.
I opted for macaroni for main which was fine, but I've never had a bad macaroni anywhere. My husband opted for scampi. Poor portion size, poor presentation and tasteless. Had the appearance of frozen supermarket scampi, not restaurant quality at all.
Overall very mediocre meal but I think it was the ambience of the restaurant and seat that finished it off for us.
Also staff seemed to be running around not knowing where they were supposed to be. We were offered drinks 4 times by different staff on arrival and similar service throughout. Also felt we were being rushed. Starter and main course was served and eaten within 20 mins. No space to digest starter and main course was on the table. Overall needs a bit better organisation when busy.
Unfortunately unlikely we will return.
