Owner description: Advance booking is essential as we are unable to offer walk in tours. Located in the beating heart of Scotland's capital, the Edinburgh Gin Distillery is a destination quite unlike any other. It's here that we produce small batches of gin, inspired by the majesty, marvel and mischief of Edinburgh and its inhabitants. The Edinburgh Gin Visitor Centre is a space in the capital where you can indulge both the mind and the palate in all things gin. From taking a tour or a guided tasting, to trying your hand at making your own, our goal is the educate, excite and libate; all in equal measure.

Bought for Mother's Day last year, and booked in Feb for 30th March, I accompanied mum to the only time slot left - 10am An early start on the first of two trains at 6.52am, we departed the west coast. Breakfast at The Huxley next door was a good way to line the stomachs. Having been in the capital on a number of occasions recently, I had been unable to identify the entrance to E.G., despite having the location and standing outside looking about. Can't remember how I figured it out prior to our tour day, but that was part of the fun. Allan furnished us with an informative and entertaining history of gin's evolution, particularly in Edinburgh. The two small stills clearly work hard so luckily are supported by the main still in Leith. We sampled the Seaside Gin in the wee tasting area, and were able to have a good blether with a lovely Austrian family, and couple from England. Mum was so enamoured, she took the opporchancity to snaffle herself a bottle of it from the shop, and despite not really being a gin drinker, I also made a donation towards our own gin collection with a bottle of Edinburgh Gin. Not even midday and the mother unit was a tad tiddly. Ruined. If you fancy getting your mother ruined, I'd highly recommend this 10am tour - we never made it home until around 10.30pm, to a hungry* dog who needed fed and walked .

*Disclaimer - my husband had been with her most of the day prior to us getting home. No animals have been harmed in the making of this review. Mothers - hmmm, harmed is a strong word

I know it will be a bit tricky to find the distillery but it wasn't too bad! Amazing trip, really interesting facts about the history and making of gin! Totally worth every penny!

Callum our guide talked about the history of Gin and told us what goes into the Edinburgh Gin botanicals and spices. We then got to sample some gin and have a chat with the others in the group. Well worth it. Enjoyed the distillery and did not realise that it’s such a small place but they make the most amazing Gin. Went over the top in the Gin Shop but the Cannonball sold it for me.

Lovely afternoon on the 2pm tour today, the host (can't remember her name but sure she said she was from South Sheils) was very knowledgeable and cheery and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the history of gin, being shown the stills and of course sampling the gins at the tasting session. Highly recommend this tour

We went on the connoisseur tour yesterday, the tour guide was witty and interesting. Sadly as we were about to have a tasting I was unwell and we had to leave; the staff could not have been kinder, checking we were OK and giving us some complimentary ‘ tasters’ to take home to compensate.
