Bought for Mother's Day last year, and booked in Feb for 30th March, I accompanied mum to the only time slot left - 10am An early start on the first of two trains at 6.52am, we departed the west coast. Breakfast at The Huxley next door was a good way to line the stomachs. Having been in the capital on a number of occasions recently, I had been unable to identify the entrance to E.G., despite having the location and standing outside looking about. Can't remember how I figured it out prior to our tour day, but that was part of the fun. Allan furnished us with an informative and entertaining history of gin's evolution, particularly in Edinburgh. The two small stills clearly work hard so luckily are supported by the main still in Leith. We sampled the Seaside Gin in the wee tasting area, and were able to have a good blether with a lovely Austrian family, and couple from England. Mum was so enamoured, she took the opporchancity to snaffle herself a bottle of it from the shop, and despite not really being a gin drinker, I also made a donation towards our own gin collection with a bottle of Edinburgh Gin. Not even midday and the mother unit was a tad tiddly. Ruined. If you fancy getting your mother ruined, I'd highly recommend this 10am tour - we never made it home until around 10.30pm, to a hungry* dog who needed fed and walked .
*Disclaimer - my husband had been with her most of the day prior to us getting home. No animals have been harmed in the making of this review. Mothers - hmmm, harmed is a strong word
