one of the best places to eat in Edinburgh, relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Great menu and staff are really polite and not at all intrusive/over attentive. Drinks are fantastic, especially the cocktails! Highly recommend you try this place for a true gastro-pub experience.

Ate here one evening when staying at the nearby Raeburn Hotel. Could not hear or understand the waiters due to the noise levels, and although the food was OK it seemed quite expensive for what it was. Tried having lunch there another day but nothing on the menu that took our fancy.

We started our experience at Scran and Scallie around 5 o'clock with 1 or 2 different waiters serving our table, both a capable standard of waiter/waitress. After we finished our starters what can only be described as a greek god of a waiter approached our table asking what made us choose the sweet bread option for a starter, to which we said, "We don't know it just sounded good". We were met with a "Oh an adventurous choice," which filled us with confidence about our food choosings! This greek god, later to be known as Evan (almighty) then went on to describe in detail what was so special about our starters and further influence our choice of mains, he outlined the best choices on the menu for mains and which sides might compliment them to their fullest, creating a melody of foods never to be forgotten. Throughout the meal we were greeted with fantastic service and knowledge of the meals we were eating, let alone extra gravy! When we complimented Evan on the fantastic service towards the end we received a 'it's easy to please those that want to be pleased' attitude which cemented our confidence and love for Our Evan. We believe he's wasted in this place and should run his own restaurant ! Long live Evan, peace safe xxxx

Our meal at the Scran & Scallie was a very nice surprise, with delicious food and great atmosphere. It was located opposite our hotel (the Raeburn) so it was very convenient.
