“Quiet apartment in the old town only a short walk to the castle”
Reviewed 16 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Gorgeous 2 bedroom apartment in the old town approx 100 metres from the grassmarket. A short walk to the castle and the royal mile. Ideally located for sightseeing. Also a close walk to the shops of princess street. The apartment is very well appointed with everything you could need for preparing meals. Washer and dryer also in apartment. Comfortable beds, living area. Heating worked well, we needed this a couple of nights. Heaps of toiletries. Large continental breakfast was provided. Would definitely stay again!

Liked best: I can't choose, but if I had to, it had to be that fact that it has everything we could basically need in a holiday home.
Liked least: Might be slightly insignificant, but a floor mat for the toilet would be good, to avoid slipping when coming out of the bath/shower.

It's good to hear you appreciated the peace and quiet in 21 Cordiner's Land. That is quite a bonus for our guests, as one usually expects such a central location in the city will probably be a bit noisy! It was a pleasure to help you on arrival - even though it is only a short walk from the station, it can be confusing navigating your way over the Royal Mile and through the Grassmarket. We hope you can return again, and thanks for this review.

Thanks for this fabulous review from a family perspective, it's really good to know your children enjoyed their Cordiner's Land adventure - the garden bridge is quite an attraction in itself, for young and old alike! (We have heard many tales of trolls hiding below that bridge, with accompanying squeals of delight.)

I was very surprised to read this 'poor' review, as I specifically asked you during your stay if you were both having a good time and you said that you were. I also asked if there were any problems and you said there were none. As you have raised issues which may affect how other potential guests may view us and our properties, I feel obliged to answer the points you have raised.
1. Most importantly, as now advised by our bank, we ask all guests who are paying by card to phone their card details directly through to us for security reasons - you sent your card information by fax instead, and if there was any subsequent fraudulent usage, this has nothing whatsoever to do with us or our system.
2. We advertise the property as being a third floor apartment with stairs - indeed, you were assisted on arrival, as you looked tired following your journey.
3. Most rental owners consider it necessary, and most guests find it desirable anyway, to conduct a reasonable email dialogue in advance, so that we can meet guests' personal requests and maintain a high quality of service.
4. The bank requires us to obtain a signed verification form for 'mail-order' transactions, as a security measure against fraud, this is not our personal whim.
5. It is also not our refusal to accept AmEx, this is not a card which is readily accepted by smaller merchants in Scotland, as most banks do not include AmEx along with Visa, MasterCard and some of the other cards.
6. Similarly for the card surcharge, which is advised to all guests in advance, should they be considering paying by card.
7. When you enquired about the property you were advised that we could close off the second bedroom, which you said you did not need, and thus received a lower tariff rate for the property than guests who ask for full use of both bedrooms. This is a way of us offering lower cost accommodation during our lower seasons to singles or couples who do not need this extra space. It personalises your stay, according to your requirements.
8. Actually, we include a very generous electricity allowance with our various tariff rates and normally this is more than enough for our many visitor's individual requirements. You were not charged and did not pay for electricity usage.
9. Your remarks make this sound as if we were being very unfair, but in all the points you raise I feel you have been unjustifiably negative and regret that you have taken such an unexpected attitude. We trust that your journey home was a happy one.
