My husband and I stayed at the Gifford House for 3 nights in June. It was beautifully decorated, very clean, close to bus stop and a quick ride to the center of Edinburgh. David and Margarent were very gracious and always helpful. The food was great. We enjoyed out stay there in every way. Highly recommend the Gifford House!!

High ceilings, nice décor, black out drapes, excellent selection for the free breakfast, helpful hosts, across the street from bus stop that takes you to central downtown area and Waverly train station in about 20 minutes; typical small bathroom; real soap (not typical bath gel so common these days); large family room with double and 2 twin size beds, two flights up with no lift/elevator (typical of those family run B&Bs)

What a lovely guest house with gracious owners. We had a wonderful stay several weeks ago. Warm and friendly welcome. The room was clean and comfortable with a view of Arthur's Seat. While a bit out of the tourist main areas it was perfect for those willing to use public transportation. The bus stop is right across the street. Tons of great dining within walking distance and Arthur's Seat is within walking distance as well. Very safe area. Breakfast was a pure delight every morning. Would not hesitate to stay again if in Edinburgh.

Gifford House is an older row house-type B&B, similar in appearance to numerous others in the Dalkeith Road area. The location is terrific for access to almost anything you would like to do in Edinburgh, and the proprietors, David and Margaret Dow, could not be more helpful and accommodating.

Although Dalkeith Road is a fairly busy street, it does not have the kind of heavy, noisy traffic you find in the area of the city center. The neighborhoods around Gifford House are lovely, quiet, and walkable. Numerous restaurants are nearby, and my wife and I had tasty and enjoyable dinners in all of them that we visited. We also found that the B&B's location is a short, easy walk to the trails around Holyrood Park, and the various hiking routes to the top of Arthur's Seat, which was visible from our room. (If you are in reasonably good shape, be sure to make the hike to the summit. It is moderately strenuous, but well worth the effort, and you can easily complete the round trip, and be back at Gifford House within 2-3 hours.)

We chose Gifford House partly because of the location and recommendations for that area of town. But we picked this B&B over several others because the owners were so willing to cater to our particular needs. We had a two-night excursion booked for the middle of our 10-day visit to Scotland, and we hoped to be able to stay in the same Edinburgh accommodations before and after that excursion. While some other Dalkeith Road places did not have the facilities that would allow us to leave some of our luggage with them during our two day excursion, David and Margaret did not hesitate in offering us that option. They stored the belongings we were not taking on our side trip, and our stuff was waiting in our room when we returned.

Breakfasts were wonderful, and the Dows will also prepare your breakfast early if you have the need to get out and about at an earlier hour during your stay. All in all, we found this an excellent place to stay in Edinburgh.
