Can't believe that I've visited Edinburgh so many times and yet this was my first visit. The museum is wonderful: beautiful surroundings and very well laid out. There is so much to see with many items being interactive (suiting both adults and children) so it's a good idea to check in advance what will be of most interest to you. There is something for everyone here and it is well worth making the trip to visit. Having finally discovered its location (I had wrongly believed it was near Princes Street when in fact it's the other side of the Royal Mile), I will definitely be back again.

£1.50 per item to leave in the cloakroom and £3 to put all of your items into one large bag. Which I found to be fairly priced and very handy especially considering that this museum is free to visit.

There's a lot to experience for adults and many wonderfully interactive attractions for children. Gorgeous architecture and a variety of displays. From fashion to technology to interiors. Displays regarding different cultures. And also 5 floors covering Scottish history (culture, religions, money etc).

I visited during the school holidays so of course it was quite busy but even then the business was limited to the more interactive parts (nature and technology). This seemed to offer an encouraging introduction to science.

We took two of the grandchildren for a day out here, and they loved it. We spent about an hour and a half in the first part, as the kids were mesmerised by the activities there. The 6 year old loved launching the hot air balloon, and the 9 year old loved everything! The millennium clock really fired up their imagination, and the space exhibition was amazing, and included a rock from outer space! They really wanted to spend longer in each part, so we will have to take them back for another visit.

The museum is perfect for families with children, as it is very interactive and full of things for the children to try and learn. For tourists, it can be a bit boring, with the most interesting artefacts being the inventions of Scottish men and women. The most rewarding is the view from the roof terrace, which is up on the 7th floor.

This is a lovely museum, very large & would take days to actually take it all in properly! With 2 teens & a 10yr old we selected the bits they were interested in & still took 4 hrs. Excellent exhibits & hands on things to keep them entertained. The picnic area is spacious & was nice & clean but very busy. Visiting during easter hols & science festival week so it was very busy & noisy. Would like to come back at a quieter time!! Well worth a visit!!
