Stayed at The Capital Residence for one night to attend a performance of the Lion King. Like previous guests arrived to envelopes on a chair with instructions and keys. This is a common event as there was a laminated copy of the letter in ception. So the contents of the letter were lies. Found bedroom but could not find the light switch. Eventually found all light switches behind an ironing board which was leaning against the wall behind the door,
I wish that people in hospitality would road test their accommodation. Lovely bathroom but no hooks for dressing gowns. No holder for shampoo etc in shower. Not sure how safe the lights were as they were hanging out of their fittings.
There was no chairs in the bedroom and as it was being sold as an apartment and had a full equipped kitchen you would need to sit on the bed to eat!
There was a full length mirror but it was leading against the wall.
The carpet in the stair was loose so was a trip hazard.
The Residence was unable to accept Debit/Credit cards when I was there.
There were good points. The double bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. There was staff in attendance on the morning who were very pleasant and helpful

Myself and my partner had booked up for one night staying in the one bedroom apartement, with plans to see The Lion King and go out for dinner and drinks that night.

We arrived a couple of hours before check in and were greeted by one of the owners. Was great as we were able to check in early no problem, she explained about the honesty bar for us coming back later that night and also offered advice on getting around etc.

The location is around a 5-10 minute walk from the Playhouse which was ideal for us, the restaurant and bars we were going to were another 10 minute walk from the Playhouse, so heading back to the hotel late that night was just a few pounds in a taxi.

The room itself was modern, spotlessly clean and had doors which led out to a patio which would be ideal in the summer months. Breakfast the next day was superb, lots of choice and something for everyone. We opted for the full Scottish breakfast which was delicious, saw us through right until dinner time.

Overall the hosting from the owner, price and facilities in our room were 5 star...great value and we will definitely be back :)

This Hotel has taken some criticism, unwarranted in my view. Other travellers has stated its too far from anything, not so, a 15 min walk to the City centre, a 20 minute walk to the Britannia loads of good eateries around. The Hotel run by a laid back pleasant couple , Heather and David. The rooms presentable and functional. Enough breakfast to keep you going to your evening meal, what more could you ask for. Oh yeah a bus service outside the door if you don't fancy the walk, £3 buys you a day ticket.

Room Tip: Have the apartment, its spacious and comfortable

A perfect stay with such friendly, helpful people who did their utmost to help us enjoy our visit to this lovely city. From transport advice, local knowledge along with with directions as well as excellent restaurant recommendations, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was clean and comfortable with a spacious en-suite. The breakfasts were super.Lots of choice and well prepared cooked options. If you are looking for an anonymous stay in a luxury 5* hotel at a mega price then Capital Residence is not for you but given the choice then the latter wins hands down.We only hope that they will be available for our return trip.

Room Tip: The suite was spacious and loved having the sofa in addition to the bed.No problems with noise

I normally read reviews before booking hotels but thios was a rush booking. If I had read the soem of the reviews I would probabaly not have booked but am certainly glad that I did. It is clear that it is impossible to please everyine as I am not sure what some people expect reading thorugh the reviews.
The Capital Residence is a very nice clean guesthouse with freindly and helpful staff it is also great value for Money. The decor in our room was excellent and we had a great nights sleep.
The Breakfast was also very nice.
I would highly recomend staying here if you are planning a stay in Edinburgh if this hotel was right in the centre you would be paying double the price so even if you dont like the short walk in to the centre you can grab a taxi with what you are saving.
