Owner description: Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh’s deepest secret: a warren of hidden ‘closes’ where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned…until now. Visit Edinburgh's most famous Close, which makes Edinburgh's Hidden History unmissable.

Advisable to book in advance as is understandably almost always busy. This is a must see attraction in Edinburgh as it is a totally entertaining way to learn a little of the city's history. The guides are professional and knowledgeable and work hard to make it fun and keep you involved. The place itself is fascinating and is unlikely to be anything like you've seen before. This is not there first time I have been and I would definitely go again.

Very entertaining hour spent learning about the hidden side of Edinburgh. Great guide- thanks Chris T for making it accessible for my daughter (aged 8) who is still talking about it. Recommended.

I wasn't sure what to expect other than we were strongly recommend to take this tour. Our guide was excellent and the tour itself was wonderfully thought through. We all found it a fascinating insight into living in old Edinburgh. Find the hour an try this for yourself.

Visited this place expecting a nice coffee shop. Coffee was OK nothing special. The cakes were dry and a bit tasteless.

Thank you for sharing your review with us. We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your visit to our Coffee House. We do source all our cakes locally, and our tea and coffee comes from Musselburgh, so it is a shame to hear that you felt they were dry and tasteless. I have shared your feedback with our management team, and would like to assure you that we take your comments very seriously.

One of the things i will definately recommend to anyone going to Edinburgh.

What a brilliant tourist attraction.

We were lucky to get tickets for the day we turned up.. But people behind us in the queue had to book for the next day as they were fully booked. I would recommened pre-booking. We went in at about 11:30am and had the last two spaces for that day.

After visiting.. I now know why. It was a BRILLIANT experience.

I won't say any more as i don't want to spoil it for anyone.

A heads up.. You can't take any pictures of your own.. but towards the end of the tour.. they take one photo of you and your group..which you can buy for £7.50 in the shop.

There are a few lockers there for £1 if you want one.. we were going to store our coats and bags.. but I'm glad we didn't because the further down you go.. it gets quite cold..

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Staff were lovely and full of information and happy to answer any questions..

100% recommened this!
