Walking distance from virtually 'everywhere' - castles, palaces, landmarks. Not 50m from a Scotch tasting pub not to be missed. Service with a smile throughout. And view of Edinburgh Castle between my toes...

Room Tip: Castle view!

I want here for tea and scones with a colleague because I love the atmosphere and the elegant surroundings. It is a beautiful space. However this is the second visit where I have been served scones that taste like they have been microwaved. They look beautiful but they are dry and hard. I expect more from this hotel so please do something to correct this,

Beginning with our welcome from the doorman to every staff member, we had an amazing time! As we were escorted to our room we were given a little history of the hotel. Used to be a train station, and history was pointed out to us. Everyone was lovely. Our room was very clean, with a king size upgrade and a view of Edinburgh castle. Absolutely first class!!

A beautiful hotel, great location, with a great staff who welcomed you with open arms. The caramels at the front desk was an extra touch.
Food and service excellent. We will highly recommend our friends and family to stay here.

We stayed for 4 nights in Room 240 overlooking St George Church, St Cuthbert Church and perched high and looming closely, Edinburgh Castle. Nothing beats that view! We were there for Tattoo so the city was busy.

Admittedly, the hotel is old and tired and really needs some updating but their attentive employees mitigate that. Great employees especially in the dining room, Angel, from Spain.

Everything was perfect except the hot water. It took at least several minutes to get the hot water. But not a deal breaker.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, or the "Caley" as it has become affectionately known among Edinburgh folk, was and still is the epitome of style and excellence. The large, rose-coloured Permian sandstone facade, quarried in Dumfries, dominates the skyline of the city's west end. The hotel has not only remained a focal point for more than one hundred years, but a symbol of the very best of Scottish hospitality. The Caley's pivotal position at the very heart of Edinburgh has always been its greatest asset. Created out of the 19th century railway boom, the five star hotel is looking to the future with confidence and pride in its ability to keep pace with the times. The hotel's reputation is as justified now as it was when the hotel first opened its doors in 1903. ... more   less
