We visited Princes Street Gardens in late Seotember...lots of grass and trees, but not too many flowers in this city park. Spent only a few minutes there as not much to see.

Lovely walk along Princes Street gardens. Right beside Princes street, Edinburghs shopping area and just down from a lot of bars and restaurants on either George Street or the Royal Mile. Would be good if you get a sunny day .

These gardens are so close to the main shopping streets that it's amazing that some people never try walking along them when they visit. On any glorious sunny day (might be cold but just wrap up well) you have the castle towering above you as well as Ramsay Gardens.
At present the Ross Fountain is being re-constructed and although the Ross Bandstand is ghastly, it is going to be replaced. You can have a picnic, you can wander from Waverley Bridge to King's Stables Road. There's lots for children to see and discover.

We were only in Edinburgh for two days and the weather was so cold we did not get the chance to visit as many places as we would have liked.
